Baby Names

So is this name just completely out there?

Not that I want a popular name for my baby but it seems as though I cant find anything on the baby girl name Vincenza (pronounced Vin-chen-zah)

DH and I finally narrowed down a short list of names we could agree on, I just posted the other night about looking for an Italian baby girl name, our current options are:

Lucia Rose (pronounced Loo-see-ah)

Mariana Rose (this would be nice because MIL's name is Marilyn)

Serafina Rose

Vincenza Marie (we thought Vinny would be a cute nickname)

thoughts on these names... Im really leaning towards Vincenza but is it completely out there? thanks!

  • I like Vincenza. You could also call her ZaZa. My second favorite of your list is Serafina.

  • I think Vincenza is cute. What do you mean you can't find "anything on it?" It's the female Italian form of Vincent. Surely it has the same meaning.
  • what I meant by that I guess is that it is not even on some baby name websites and it hasn't been in the top 1000 names on the ssa website since I don't even remember when (haha sorry forget already) not that this is necessarily a bad thing, I do realize its the feminine form of Vincent I just wasn't sure what peoples reactions would be I guess. Thanks!

  • i only like lucia.
  • Oh wow! I am swooning over your list!

I LOVE Vincenza! I came across it a handful of months ago while researching for a friend and completely fell in love with it. It's in my top 10! It's so gorgeous! Vinny ruins it for me, though, sorry.

My name is Lucia (I changed my name to this so it was a choice for me, and I'm 100% happy with it!) and I really love it :D

Serafina is just great! I like it very much.

    Mariana is pretty as well.

  • I like Lucia Rose.  I don't like the idea of calling a girl Vinny.

  • Vincenza is my first choice

Lucia would have been if you pronounced it the Italian way, which im surprised you wouldnt given the names you have picked out.

    Marianna i like

Serafina would be my last choice.

  • My wedding dress was called Vincenza.  I like it!  Smile  I'm also a fan of boyish nicknames for a girls, but that probably has something to do with my nickname being Robbie.

  • I love the name Vincenza, but hate the nn Vinny for a little girl.  I think Vincenza Rose is a gorgeous name.

FWIW, Serafina Rose is almost what Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck's LO is named (she has an Elizabeth thrown in there for a 2nd MN).

  • I think it's a beautiful name, but a toss up with Mariana! Great list!

  • I like it.
  • I like Vincenza! Ditto pp...I only like Lucia when it is pronounced the Italian way, not Loo-see-ah or Loo-sha.
  • I think Vincenza is a great option for an Italian name! My next favorite is Mariana, but I think all your names are good choices.

  • DD name is Lucia pronounced the spanish way, she was named after the region in Spain she was concived in, but we are italian so everyone says it the italian way.  You would be suprised also how many people say Loo sha.
  • Vincenza is not "out there" at all. Probably the reason you can't find anything on it is that it's such an old name, and it just hasn't come back yet. But to me, the only website that really matters is www.BehindTheName.com, and your beloved Vincenza is featured there! Here is the link:

I would list them in this order:

    1. Vincenza Marie (though I do not like the nn Vinny for a girl)- This could also be in honor of Marilyn.

    2. Mariana Rose- This used to be on my list. I still really like it.

    3. Serafina Rose- Very pretty!

    4. Lucia Rose- Any time you have to put the pronunciation in parenthesis, you need to consider if it's worth all the mispronunciations you'll get. For me, this one is not worth it. (While Vincenza is.)

  • It's not completely out there - it's the name of the city a friend of mine grew up in. :-)

  • I knew a girl named that who went my the nns Cenza (pronounced the same minus the "Vin") and Vincie (with an s sound instead of the ch) at different times.  I like those nns better than Vinny for a girl.  I like all of your names, though.
  • LOVE Vincenza.  Serafina is lovely.  Mariana makes me do a double take, thinking it says marinara (but it's still totally a beautiful name despite my initial dyslexia).  I dislike Lucia, regardless of the pronunciation.

  • I don't think Vincenza is too out there, especially if you have an Italian last name.  If your last name is Jones, it might be a little odd.  It's not my favorite, it just sounds too masculine for my taste.  I like Serafina, not sure about the spelling though.  My favorite is Lucia but with the traditional Italian pronunciation.  C in Italian is a "ch" sound.  A CH is a "k" sound.  So if you make it loo-see-uh, it makes in not an Italian name.  Just my 2 cents.
