Infertility

Book suggestions about dealing with IF?

I'm looking for something less scientific and more inspirational (success stories, etc).

One that I've found is called Pregnancy Wishes and IVF Dreams. Have you read it? If so, would you recommend it?

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And HOPE does not dissappoint.

Re: Book suggestions about dealing with IF?

  • I haven't read that one, but I do have a couple to recommend:

    1) "Waiting for Daisy" by Peggy Orenstein - this book is a memoir of someone who struggled with infertility, but it's also just a really great read. The author struggled with miscarriages and failed IVFs and DE cycles. I will warn you that her eventual take-home baby results from a surprise BFP rather than a treatment cycle, but I loved this book and could really relate to the author, especially when she writes about the toll that IF takes on her marriage.

    2) "So Close" by Tertia Albertyn - this one is by a woman who went through nine IVF cycles and mulitple losses before finally having twins. While the first book reads more like a novel (I almost wanted to put a spoiler alert for saying that her take-home baby was a surprise), this one is more of a straight-up account of one woman's struggles with infertility. I will warn you that this one is hard to read at times, because of all the loss that she goes through, but it's also a good book.

I found both of these helpful in validating the feelings that I've had while going through this process. Hope this helps!

    .
  • I second inconceivable... it was the first that I read and it was really good. I also was just looking into Silent Sorority because someone posted about it earlier (look down on the post page for a Thanks For The Book Recommendation post).
  • I also really enjoyed So Close.  Another that's along those lines is Tick Tock by Dr. Lillian Schapiro.  She is an OB/GYN and had to deal with pregnant patients all day long while going through treatments.  It was a pretty good read.

Not what you asked for, but I strongly rec How to Make Love to a Plastic Cup for your husband.  Mine hates to read, but really, really enjoyed this.  It breaks down everything IF related in a funny, manly way.
