Scarlet Fever

Children age 2 to 11 are more prone to this kind of fever. More commonly named strep throat although scarlet fever comes with a rash & strep throat doesn?t. In other words, the same bacteria that cause one cause the other. That?s the only difference between them really. The rash will appear like white or yellow spots on the throat. Tissues in the back of the throat get infected. Children have difficulty swallowing, pain, and have fever 101F or higher. Other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stuffy nose, & cough might be present. Most of the time this fever last for a few days and most people use antibiotics to treat it. It stops the infection from spreading to other parts of the body. There is no good evidence that antibiotics suppress the immune system though. Consult your pediatrician before administering them. Many times it?s not necessary. Overusing anti-biotic can lead to resistant bacteria which means the bacteria becomes resistant & stronger doses are required.
