Hello! Today my midwife and I discussed the fact that I have a "platypelloid pelvis" -- meaning that it's flat and wide. She told me I shouldn't worry about it too much as women with this type of pelvis have babies everyday without problem but that the baby may come out sideways and then turn.
I googled it and I've found everything from Doctors never seeing one in thier career to an instance that there is no way that I will be able to give birth without a c-section.
Has anyone else had this or heard of anything about it? I am planning on having a water birth but if it is impossible it would be nice to know what I'm getting into.
Thanks!
Re: Platypelloid pelvis?
My doctor told me the same thing yesterday. I talked about it with my doula, and she assured me that it is NOT IMPOSSIBLE to have a natural birth.
The same thing: that the baby's head will come out side-ways, then will need to shift the body inside the birth canal to rotate, then come out shoulders lengthwise with the "flat" part of the platypelloid pelvis. She said it may make labor longer or in call for more skilled support in helping me find good labor positions to encourage the baby to turn the way it needs to, but that it is absolutely do-able.
