Hi Ladies! DH and I just found out we are expecting. My current doctor does not deliver so I am switching to Bulseco's Group since they go to St. Clair Hospital, where I would prefer to deliver. Does anyone have any exprience with them? Also, what should I except for our first appointment? Does dh go with me? Thanks!
Re: Bulseco's Group
My first appt was at 8 weeks. I had bloodwork and ultrasound (I am high risk)--some don't have an u/s until 20 weeks, I have heard.
I also had a pap (routine for everyone) and urine tests
Bloodwork was blood type, HIV, Cystic fibrosis (or other genetic test depending on ancestory. My primary doc had already "warned me" about the types of blood test. Make sure you ask about the genetic blood tests-SOME insurance co. don't cover them. My doctor uses a lab that only charges $150 for CF testing...but the nurse said the "old lab" used to charge $1000.
The doctor went over types of screenings/testing I could choose to do-some invasive (amnio) some not (nuchal translucensy-which is an ultrasound).
Doc answered all our questions and next appt is at week 12.
I am not with the group you mentioned-I need to deliver at Mercy or West penn due to my high risk...but I understand most 1st appts are the same'
My husband went with me. I was hoping for an ultrasound but found out once there that the office didn't have one....but husband said he was glad he went--all the fears he had were calmed by the doc.
Call the office and ask what their routine is...and whether it is beneficial for Dads to come (I have heard some offices have dad wait in waiting room for a portion of appointment-mine was in with me entire time)
I like to look up other patients' opinions on this website and take it for what it's worth:

I just delivered with them in Sept. - - - I had an awesome experience (Dr. Peske and the hospital staff were great and the rooms are huge! Anyway, Dr. Peske (the newest Dr.) is absolutely wonderful along with Dr. Lenart. Dr. Peske delivered my baby via c-section and everything went well. She is a fantastic Dr. who will sit and talk to you and truly listen. She asked questions about my life and DH (he went with me to almost every appointment) and REMEMBERED us! After I saw all the Dr.'s (which they make you do) I made sure to only scedule with Peske or Lenart. (Brown and Mackay are also good)
Dr. Bulseco is not very good with bedside manor. She performed a D&E on me when I miscarried. Let's just say I wish Peske or Lenart did it.
The McMurray office has nicer staff (even tho some of them move between the 2) IMO and yes sometimes you have to wait on the phone for the 1st appt. but schedule the rest at each appointment.
Anytime I had to call...something as stupid as I felt something new to as serious as something like bleeding, nurse Debi was terrific and the On call Dr.s were always great.
The only really negative thing about St. Clair is you sometimes get charged twice for the delivery. Once from the Dr. or Nurse and then from the actually hospital.
If you have any other questions let me know!
I go to the Bulseco Group. They delievered my first at SCMH in March of 09. We are currently expecting #2. I finally had a chance of meeting with Dr. Peske. I honestly like all the drs. I really wasn't a fan of Dr. Bulseco until she did my D&C, after that I warmed up a lot more to her. I really have no "fav" but overall I like Dr. McGranahan the most or atleast with the 1st preg. Dr. Lenart delievered our 1st and was great.
If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask!
My first appointment is with Dr. Bulseco, so I was nervous about that. Hopefully it goes well. Is she good about answering your questions? I feel like I have a bunch for her.
Thank you everyone for the info!
They really try and make the 1st appointment with Dr. Bulseco especially if you are new to the practice. If your DH can make it to the appointment it will be good b/c you go into her office and talk to her first (about screenings, tests etc...) then you get a full over exam and it made me more comfortable to have DH sitting next to me. You will have to pee in a cup (at every appointment) so ask where it is after you sign in (sometimes they would forget to tell people for their 1st visit). You should be fine! She is ok about answering questions...I think sometimes she forgets that some people have never been through it before.
If you have any general questions feel free to ask...we might be able to answer some so you can make sure to ask the really important ones to Dr. Bulseco.

I go to Bulseco's group in McMurray. I will be delivering in St Clair as well. I have had no problems thus far in my experience. The doctors have been nothing but nice. Dr Bulseco is a little short but knowledgeable, she doesn't go into detail but she does answer your questions. I haven't had much experience with the hospital itself other than when I went in for a D&C after my miscarriage-the staff was all wonderful during the short time I was there. This will be my second delivery but first at the St Clair hospital. I chose to deliver there due to my HORRIBLE experience with the Washington Hospital.
When are you due?
