1st bday - WWYD?

Logan's birthday is on a Wednesday. I don't want to have a party during the week so DH and I will do something with just the 3 of us on his actual bday.

Because of DH's work schedule we won't be able to have a party (small) until Mar 19th. DH's mom is planning to come...I'll be surprised if that happens because my SIL is pregnant and due April 1st. I think my MIL will get to a point where she won't want to leave her if she hasn't had the baby yet.

What do we do about presents? Have him open presents from us on his bday or wait until his party? Maybe have a couple of things for each time?

I KNOW I'm overthinking this...it's what I do. We still have over 2 months and it's all I can think about. DH laughs at me...I was the same way when we were planning our wedding. :)

  • We had a small family celebration at Thanksgiving dinner since all were gathered anyway and it was just a few days early.  And we opened our presents and whatever family got her then.  On her actual b-day, we had dinner with some friends and she got a few more presents.  We actually opened those the next night, as it would have been chaotic to open while out, etc.  Do what ever is easiest for you.  Logan won't remember.

  • Ha! Yes Shannon, you're overthinking this!   Logan will never know the difference if you open a few gifts on his birthday and a few more days later.  Do what makes the most common sense.

Do yourself a favor... RELAX!   You have enough drama and stress in your life.. don't add Logan's birthday to that pile, okay??!!  Wink

I hear you LOL I really do! Stick out tongue Party planning for me is like a high. I love it! :) DH and I were talking last night and I was asking him if he liked different things for Logan's party. I asked him why he wasn't excited...it's because he knows I will change things a million times. LOL. I think I need some sort of support group! Wink

  • I would spread the gifts out.  At her first bday, DD got overwhelmed and lost interest in opening gifts very quickly, so I ended up opening most of them for her.

She was much more into opening gifts this Christmas - she was trying to open other people's gifts!

One thing I would recommend trying to do is to take photos of Logan with each family member (and/or friend, not sure how big your guest list will be) at the party, so you capture those memories.  If you want, you can give them a copy of the photo as a little momento later.

That's because your DH is a MAN!   They just don't understand these things!

  • sabrina's bday fell on a wednesday, her party was on the following saturday. we celebrated (with decoration, food, cake, gifts) on her bday with just the three of us on her bday. and at her party, she had plenty more to open. even if she only had one gift, having a little party for just us was definitely way more special (to me) than lumping it all together.

  • If the party is a small group of just family, open them all at the party.

If you are planning a huge bash with lots of people and gifts, open all the presents some other time. Logan will not know the difference so I say think of your guests' sanity on this one. Unless they all love sitting and watching you open gifts while you one year old eats paper, skip the gift opening until you are on your own.
