I haven't taken it yet, but have friends that have and said it was good. We plan on doing the one day intensive as well.
Oh and I was in SSH last week for kidney stones and the birthing unit and maternity unit there was so nice, the nurses were wonderful and made you feel very comfortable!! Just thought I'd share that.
We are also going to be taking the one day intensive course (on Oct. 4). My midwife said it was fine, though she did mention that she has also heard great things about the classes offered at Mamas Move in Norwell. We opted for the SSH class, though, because it is $50 cheaper.
They do fill up quickly. I had a little trouble getting in touch with them, as there is only an answering machine. I left my information and ended up playing phone tag with the woman for a couple of days before we finally connected!
I had a brochure and I just mailed it in like a week and a half ago and we got confirmation in the mail on Tues that our class is scheduled for Nov 22nd!!!
First, let me agree that the nurses at SSH are phenomenal. I loved everyone in L&D, maternity, and the NICU. The birthing class was just 'eh.' The lady talked a LOT about why you don't need an epidural, and it was a really long day (one day intensive). The tour part was the only really interesting thing, IMO. But the cafeteria there is really good! DH is excited to have the next babies so he can get the ice cream there again. GL!
It depends on who leads the class. Our one day class was almost intolerable (except the tour). The same lady did the "infant bathing and massage" class in the maternity ward after I delivered and DH and I were like "oh crap". She droned ON and ON about herself and her empty nest and made us get down on the floor to do a bunch of positions we might like for childbirth on the hard awful conference room floor at 9 months pregnant! PASS!
