DH and I agreed to try IVF again (if the new RE recommends), but DH ultimately said it was up to me. Originally he didn't know if we should try again since he said it was hard on me. I said it wasn't really that hard on me, and that I'd try as many times as he'd let me/we could afford. But I'm curious, if you kept getting BFNs, how many IVF cycles would you try before giving up?

Re: How many IVF cycles would you try? (clicky)
Celine Dion did 6.
3 IUI's w/Clomid & Ovidrel=all BFNs
3 IVF (2 Fresh, 1 frozen) =BFN
Jan 2012 New RE & Fresh Cycle =BFP!
This is prob where i got it...and when i first joined here, there was someone who's insurance covered 6.
These things led me to decide it was a reasonable number for me.
We were just having that same conversation. I picked 3, because I do want to try one more time. We've used our lifetime max and are now completely OOP so unfortunately that is influencing our decision.
DH does not want to do any more fresh cycles because I ran into OHSS complications with both cycles (and this time I had some scary trouble with my kidneys for a day) so he is afraid that we're just chancing my health if I do it again.

Special Snowflake:
I have 3 Fresh IVF & 3 FETs under my insurance. so far I have done 1 fresh and 1 FET. After my coverage runs out and I am OOP I would move onto DE...
IVF#1: start stims 1/26; ER 2/8; ET 2/13= BFN; FET#1: May 2010= m/c *NEW CLINIC Jan 2011* IVF#2: start stims 1/12; ER 1/22; ET 1/27= BFN; IVF#3: TBD
~SAIFW/PAIFW~
I should also add that I originally said 3 cycles when we 1st started IVF...then I said definitely no more than 5 but after being pg so many times and not having a baby, I feel like I can't stop.
That makes sense. If it worked enough that you got multiple BFPs, I would want to keep trying too. I hope IVF #6 results in your take home baby/ies.

I voted special snowflake. We've done 2 IVF's with no embryos to transfer... Sometimes I'm tempted to try that again but I really don't think I could handle it.
We'll try with ds and if it doesn't work and the RE thinks we still have a good chance I might be willing to try that again. If ds fails and he thinks we need DE and thinks that it might work without ds, we might try that. A lot will really just depend on finances.
We can't start an IVF cycle until at least mid/late Feb and I really want to have a decision made about whether or not we'll pursue adoption by the middle of the summer.
TTC since 2007
6 IUIs, 3 IVFs, and 2 m/c :< PCOS, Blood Clotting Disorder & MFI
IVF #2 Aug 2011 is a BFN:<
IVF #3 March 2012 is a BFN
Not sure what to do now. Sad and lost.
I voted special snowflake.....we're finally cycling this month after three months postponing from of an insanely persistent cyst. We're doing mini ivf so we won't be transferring anytime soon (unless we decide to just go for it) but it worries me I'll have to wait another however many months for only our second retreival because of another or more cysts. I have a feeling its going to get really old really fast (because it already is and we haven't even begun).
In a perfect world, I'd like to do three ERs (over three consistent months) and then go for the ETs until we run out of frosties. Assuming we get two embies at each ER, that would just be three ERs. In a really perfect world, we'd already have those six frosties......
After 2+ years and multiple treatment cycles,
including an IVF vacation in Costa Rica/Panama,
IVF #2 brought us our miracle baby!
Surprise! Baby Boy is on the way!
IVF # 1 ~ Antagonist ~ ER 1/27/11~ ET 1/30/11 ~ + HPT 7dp3dt
DD born med-free on 10/24/11
I said special snowflake b/c I only a small amount of IF coverage on my insurance. It will cover 1 round of IVF. After that - we'd be OOP. If there is some coverage left we may do some injects + IUI cycles, but IVF is what my RE is recommending at this point, so that is why we are going with that.
As far as OOP IVF, there is just no way we could afford it. By the time we could save up I think my age would really be working against us (I am 37 1/2 now). It's very sad that having a baby is dependent on what you can afford. I realize I am very lucky to have any coverage at all, but it's a one shot deal.
After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!

I told MH that this would be our last fresh cycle with my eggs and his sperm but deep in my heart I know we will keep going if the dr thinks it's still possible for a pregnancy to occur. I voted as many as it takes. We are 100% OOP so that definitely would play a role in how far apart they would be though.
Sigh, I freakin' hate IF. More than that, I hate California and the lack of coverage we have here.
Boo, mini insurance rant over.

IUI 1,2,3 BFN

it's a girl!!
I would love to say as many as it will take, but I said two, because unfortunately we are paying 100% oop. We will attempt IVF once with my OE, and once with DE from my sister.
