Blocked Tear Duct Question-

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to see if anyone's DC had this problem.  Riley has had it since about 1 month old and it's just not clearing up.  Our pedi says that we should wait until he's 1 year old before seeing a pediatric opthomologist.  I've read also that there's a simple procedure that they can do.  We're constantly wiping his eye and sometimes it gets red and his skin's all irritated too.  =(
Just wanted to know if someone's experienced this, TIA!

My boys also had blocked tear ducts and my sister who is an optometrist said to put a warm wash cloth on the eyes.  This helped un-block them by opening up the ducts, but you have to do it 3x/day.  And don't wipe, just blot so the skin doesn't get irritated.  Our pedi said to massage the ridge of the nose near the eyes and that will also help.  We did it during feeding times b/c they wouldn't stay still otherwise.  HTH and good luck.

We did the same thing as DT said in the post above. Brody had one for about 2 months. good luck!

we do the same...  some days it looks a lot better than others.

Ditto everyone above.  Hers has gotten much better except for days when I want to get professional pictures done!

Our DD had this for the 1st 3 months of her life and it would NOT go away. Tried all the massage and warm compresses... nothing helped. I finally had to demand my pedi give me something to clear it up pronto. He reluctantly gave me the gel that they give you for pink-eye (forgot what it's called) and it was gone in two days.

I did the same as above w/V but her blocked tear duct didn't clear for months!  Her doctor gave her drops because at one point it did turn into an infection.  Finally it went away at about 6 months.  If it didn't clear in one yr. her doctor said it would have to be probed by an opthamologist.
