TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

I HATE BCP

I am totally hating the BCPs. I have been spotting/bleeding for 16 days. It makes me so emotional and cranky and kinda mean. It also makes me tired or maybe that's the bleeding for 2 weeks. I have to take them until 14th so I'm almost done but I hate them and the way I feel SO badly.

Re: I HATE BCP

  • I am not looking forward to them either.  I was so sure I was done with them forever and now to go back on them - seems counterproductive (yet I know it's important for cycling for IVF).

Were your docs at all concerned about your going on BCP's with the clotting risk?  My hemotologist didn't really address BCP's leading up to IVF - in general I was told I shouldn't take them as birth control, nor hormone replacement when that day comes.  That being said I was on them for 18 years since I didn't know I shouldn't have been and I never had a clot or a problem really.

Guess that will be another thing to bring up on Wed at my appt with my RE.

  • I'm sorry. I have similar reactions to BCP. When I first started taking it, I bled for 32 days until I demanded that the doctor switch my prescription. When the RE put me on BCP for my testing earlier this cycle the same thing happened... I bled or spotted until he took me off. It sucks. I hope the 14th comes quickly for you!!

  • I'm sorry. I hope Jan 14 gets here quick. And that stims don't bother you :)
  • I feel the same way. I'm usually more emotional and cranky on bcp's then the injectibles.

I was very concerned about going on them when we first started talking about IVF but my RE said it wouldn't be a problem and while I was super nervous about it, I didn't demand an explanation but I'm pretty sure I was able to go on them because I'm on coumadin. (I did have a clot while on BCPs back when I was 20) The coumadin counteracts the clotting effect of the BCPs, in fact my new OB and I were talking once about my clotting disorder and he said in theory while taking blood thinners there is not reason you can't take birth control BUT I'd have a hard time finding a doctor to prescribe it, because it's not studied. Also I should say I'm switching to the lovenox on the 12th when I start the injections because the lovenox isn't affected by the change in hormones the way coumadin in, this also made my hematologist much more comfortable, she doesn't want to deal with another clot and I'm thankful for this!

  • That sucks that you feel like crap, but you are so close to being done.  I can't wait for you to start your stims.  Hope you feel better soon!
