I'm pretty sure Florida Kid Care is for people who don't qualify for Medicaid, but don't really have the income for private healthcare. Some years there is a waiting list, others, they are looking for people.
Yes the previous poster is correct. Florida Kid Care is for those that are just over the income level of Medicaid. There is a waiting period and you do have to pay a portion of the insurance premium - i have heard it is as low as $9 per child and heard up to $91 depends on your income. I work for a Medicaid plan. If you have questions let me know.
There are of course good things and unfortunate things with Medicaid. Since it is based on our taxes the funding is not there for more children (and women and men) to qualify. And it can be difficult to find specialists that will accept the insurance even though they have a contract (payments are low to specialists due to it is tax based). Good Luck!
I did hear about a new plan by BCBS - it's called Go Blue! and it is around $30 a month - I would not suggest it for prenatal care but for after the baby is due it is an avenue (if you do not qualify for Medicaid or Health Kids) that you could take - it is a discount plan basically.
