Nanny for 3 newborns....Where to start?

Hi ladies,

This is my first post on the local board. I live in Baltimore city (Canton) and am expecting twins in late June.  Our best friends are expecting a singleton in early July and we're considerig a nanny share for our LOs.

Do you have any recs for where to start a search? Is there a website?  Where do you find recs? Are we searching too early?  Are we right on time?  We're the first of our group of friends to get pg so we are clueless...thanks!

  • Not trying to be a debbie downer but I would really think about sharing a nanny for 3 newborns.  In all licensed day cares there can only be two kids under the age of two per worker.  Caring for a newborn is a.lot.of.work and personally I would be worried about the care and attention that my baby would be receiving just bc that would be a.lot for one person to handle.  Just a thought...

  • ditto to the concerns above

  • I agree with the 2 posters above.  I have 2 children (see tickers) and I watch 2  children (age 3 and 1 as of Sept.) in our home 2x a week and it is rough.  I can't imagine watching 3 infants.  I took a break from watching them after DS was born until August.  It is very tough with infants because it can take months for their schedules to be established.

  • I second sittercity, I have had friends that use it and have had success.  There is also a Downtown Baltimore Family Association, I think that's what its called.  You may want to check that out.

I also agree that three infants would be a lot for one person, but people have triplets and survive, so if you can find someone who is willing to try, go for it.

  • Ditto re PP re 3 NBs being a lot for one person.  At our daycare the ratio is 3:1, but there are always extra floaters, teachers, etc. an extra set of hands/arms around.  3 NBs for one person w/o a break is alot to ask.  Obviously, it can be done, but I would rather have more people caring for my LO than less.  Also - with a nanny, you are generally paying for the one-on-one attention, if your LOs arent' getting, you might want to consider other options.

  • Wow...Thanks ladies...I was thinking that 3 would be alot and mentioned it to DH but he didn't seem to think that it was a big deal (I know he's really set on a nanny.)  I didn't realize that the regulated centers had the "no more than 2 under 2" policy per worker.  Going with my gut feeling and am going back to square 1.....

:hugs: I think it's bc until they become dads men don't get it.  They just don't.  I just want to say that trust your gut not only now but once your LO is born.  It won't steer you wrong!

  • I'd have the same concerns as pp.  I do not think a nanny share for 3 infants would be in your baby's best interest.  Actually, there is a listserv for Southeast Baltimore.  Google the DBFA website and you'll find a link to join the listserv.  There you could find more info on nannies/nanny shares.  You could probably find a singleton baby to nanny share with and that would probably be better for your LO.

Sorry, I read your original post wrong. I see now that you are the one having twins, and I saw your follow up post.  Glad you are reconsidering.  Definitely get on that listserv.  It's a great resource for this area.  It is for the Fells Point/Canton/Highlandtown area.
