Sorry. I lived in Hattiesburg my whole life until last July and now I live in North Mississippi. The only Midwives I've been able to find in the vicinity are in Memphis (but that's nowhere near being close to you). But here is a website that might help you. Good Luck. I also really want to use a Midwife, but I may not get to be that lucky.
The Midwives @ Garden park in Gulfport. It is a birthing center instead of a hospital. But It's a ways from you. Also home births in MS and AL are illegal not to say we don't have my mother had a mid-wife in mobile and had my brother at home. Now there is a Bradley method teacher north of here. And i can get you more info on here if you need. She might know a mid-wife close by. jivegrly@yahoo.com
Jivegrly -- home births are *not* illegal in MS. [Actually, to make a quibble, home births are not illegal anywhere; but midwives may be illegal. ;-)] AL does specifically outlaw non-nurse midwives; but MS law does not. Currently, our law states that "midwifery is not the practice of medicine," and that any woman whose sole income is from attending births is considered a midwife.
