How Long Before Exercising

I delivered on November 30th and I've already lost all of my pregnancy weight (I only gained 15 lbs anyway).  The doctor said that I will probably lose 10 more lbs, which is fine with me...

 But, when can I start going to the gym to get rid of my flabby gut and thighs?  I haven't been able to find any conclusive evidence on this one way or the other and I feel like such a slob sitting around the house constantly, just cleaning the house, feeding, and changing my son.

Does anyone have any information or advice?

  • I tried doing the 30 Day Shred around 8 weeks pp and it was too much too soon.  It messed with my milk supply and I actually felt more drained, not energized.  I think around 10-12 weeks I started doing regular exercise, though nothing as intense as the Shred.  I slowly worked my way back up (and past) my pre-pregnancy endurance level.

    It will all come off in time.  Just remember it took 9 months to put it on.  Give it 9 months to come off.  And way to go only gaining 15 lbs.!  That's fantastic!

  • You definitely have to wait for your 6-week clearance from your doctor. After that you can do whatever you feel up to. Just remember to ease back into things. You should be able to listen to your body and adjust accordingly.

  • Ditto waiting for the 6-week clearance.  Before that point, however, I took some slow walks through our neighborhood.  Nothing too strenuous, of course, but at least I felt like I was doing something.
  • My dr said that if the bleeding increased, I was doing too much.  The first time we tried a walk around the neighborhood, the bleeding did increase so we waited a few days to try again.  I had my follow up appt at 4 weeks instead of 6, but I would definitely wait for your dr to give you the all clear before trying anything more than light walking.
