Smoking is a dreadful habit which affects almost all the parts of the body. The cigarette smoke contains many chemicals which are inhaled while smoking. It spreads throughout the body and causes harm.

Chemicals in tobacco damage the macula, which is the most sensitive part of the retina. Smoking is known to cause a number of eye diseases like Graves? opthalmopathy, age related macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataract. Continuous smoking can also cause permanent blindness.

Smoking highly increases the chances of cancer of the larynx, oral cavity and esophagus. The chances of developing these cancers increases with the number of cigarettes smoked.

Smoking immediately affects the heart and circulation by increasing the blood pressure and heart beat. In the longer term smoking also increases the blood cholesterol and fibrinogen levels. This increase the chances of blood clot and hence heart attack.

The tar in cigarettes damage cells in the airways of the lung and thus the cilia become unable to sweep away the harmful substances. This eventually produces cells which grow in an uncontrolled way causing cancer of the lungs or larynx. The incidence of lung cancer depends on the daily dose of tobacco, duration of smoking and the form in which tobacco is smoked.

Smoking is also known to build up fatty substances in the carotid artery which is the main artery supplying blood to the brain. The blockage of this artery blocks blood supply to the brain causing stroke.

Smoking adversely affects all the parts of the digestive system and causes heartburn and peptic ulcers. It also increases the risk of developing gall stones and Crohn?s disease.

It is of utmost importance that smokers stop smoking using Stop smoking medication  or any other natural methods and keep this dreaded habit at bay.
