Speaking of stay home as long as possible

Anybody else delivering at a hospital about an hour away?  This is the only thing I don't like about switching to a new practice b/c my old hospital was 7 min. away and it would have been a lot easier to stay home as long as possible.  Just curious what other people in the same situation are doing?

No family or friends that live near the hospital.  I am not completely ruling out getting a hotel, but it almost seems more stressful to try and coordinate that since it's not like the hospital is super far away.  Both my midwife and doula don't seem concerned about the distance, but I also don't want to get to the hospital too early.

Re: Speaking of stay home as long as possible

  • I'm pretty much set on swapping to an OB who is an hour away (he just delivered Jb&Jb's LO) b/c he has such a reputation for being pro-VBAC. I also have concerns because of the distance. I have never gone through labor (c/s due to breech position) so I don't know how quickly things progress.

  • How quickly things progress depends on so many things anyway. My two labors were radically different, so I wouldn't say you're any worse off than a BTDT mama.

  • The hospital im delivering at is about an hour away.  Luckily I will have a MW come to my house for the early labor and i will trust her to know when we should leave...
