Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

anyone have leaning shelves.. safety question...

We have 2 leaning shelves on either side of our desk. We have the bottom 2 shelves empty b/c DS takes everything off of them - or we only put non-breakables on them.

Anyway, how can I anchor them to the wall? DS has been wanting to sit on the bottom or try to stand. We constantly move him away and tell him no.

Well tonght, I said No and was coming to move him and the shelves fell.

THANKFULLY he was OK. I tried to catch it as it was falling but I just couldn't reach.

We really need to anchor them to the wall but not sure how?

If you have these and do not have them anchored, please do so. I was so terrified.

Re: anyone have leaning shelves.. safety question...

  • I don't have these, but maybe regular furniture anchors would work?? We've anchored our tall dressers and shelves with them. So glad your DS is OK...how scary!!

  • I just found something on One Step Ahead. I think I am going to order them. Showing them to DH now to make sure they will work on it first.

We were glad he was OK. There wasn't too many things on the shelves - and he was mostly scared and didn't know what happened.

We are also considering removing the bottom shelf.

  • Can you link what you found?  We took our leaning shelf down when DS became mobile, and I miss it terribly!
  • We had one in our living room for a while and recently sold it, but it came with a strap of some kind of fabric/canvas that we screwed into the back of the top shelf and anchored to the wall. It definitely kept the shelf from tipping but I still didn't like the way DD insisted on trying to climb it.
