For a girl. Pronounced Care-iss. I need honest opinions as one of us loves this name and won't consider anything else, and the other one can't stand the name.
I was just thinking about this name today. I love it but spelled as Charis. I was thinking of maybe changeing our daughters name from Eden Bryar to Eden Charis. Im not entirely sure, but I think the meaning is Grace in Biblical Greek.
It's pretty and I think the meaning is great. I don't know if I like the spelling of Charis...I'd stick with Caris or Carys. I know a young lady named Caris and she's nice.
I've loved it (spelled Carys) since trying to figure out names for #1, but DH doesn't get it and vetoed it immediately. I still push it every once in a while to no avail
I like it, but don't LOVE it. Definitely prefer it spelled Caris or Carys (my fave). Don't use Charis... people will forever pronounce it like Chair-ys. Horrible!
NMS, sorry. I do however like Carissa. Good luck picking a name. Just curious which one of you loves the name and which one of you can't stand it?
My guess would be that the OP is the one that can't stand it, and her husband is the one that loves it and won't consider anything else.
The reason for this guess is that I hear a lot of women on this board say their husbands won't consider anything else, but I hardly ever hear the ladies on this board say that.
I don't like the name Caris, but my sisters name is Charis (pronounced Chair-is) and I think it's a great name. It fits her very well. I've never met anyone other than my sister with her name, even though my mom named her that after hearing it from another little girl.
Hopefully you'll be able to get your hubby to decide differently! )

Yeah, I don't like the name at all. I've given my DH so many other names and he just won't let go of this one. He got it from a book.
I personally don't like it because I would be confused on the pronunciation and if I heard it, I would be confused on the spelling. I have a common name but an unusual spelling and I constantly have to correct people on the spelling and the pronunciation of my name. It is so old and I have even thought of having my name legally changed.
Not a fan. I've seen it multiple times on this board and I had never heard of it, but my mom has a little girl named Carys in her class. Maybe it's becoming more popular?

This.
I would not pronounce that as Care-iss if I saw it on a piece of paper. Ever.
I have a friend from HS whose name is Karis. Pronounced Car-iss. I love that name.
I LOVE Carys. It is derived from the Welsh caru, meaning "love".
Caris is a variant of Charis.
Charis is derived from the Greek charis, meaning "grace" or "kindness".
For others who suggested Carissa:
Carissa is a form of Charissa. Charissa is an elaborated form of Charis. So Charis is the original in Greek, and Carys is the original in Welsh.
