Adoption

Busy week!

As reported last week, I've been doing respite for a 15 yo and her 1yo baby. Things have gone great. She cares for the baby completely. She does like to text a lot, but she still pay attention to the baby. Its been a bit of a baby war with her baby and mine being 6 days apart! They have been battling/picking on each other. The only uncomfortable moment for me was when she talked about adoption and just doesn't understand how anyone could give their baby up for adoption (remember, she's 15). And for my DH the uncomfortable moment was watching 16 & pregnant with her! I just laughed at him because he actually sat there through it.

We also inquired about a child here in our area that was on our Wednesday's Child report on the news. Her foster parents are in our agency, so we had an "in" to get information about her. DH went up to the agency and they all dropped what they were doing and had a round table meeting with him. Unfortunately she wouldn't be a good fit for us due to some of her circumstances. BUT DH has given me the "go" to inquire with our boys adoption caseworker for a girl :)

Happy New Year everyone!

  • I cannot imagine hearing a 15 year old mom tell someone with adopted children that they cannot imagine "giving up" their child.... awkward.

However, I think your DH sitting through 16 and Pregnant with her wins the cake! That is 30-60 minutes of torture instead of a brief comment!

I must admit, I watch the show... but I comment... a lot. I would have a hard time watching it while keeping my mouth shut with a 15 year old mom next to me! He gets brownie points for that!
