Cloth Diapering

Kenmore HE Washer

Our new Kenmore HE washer was delivered today (yea!).

Until now with my non-HE front loader I had been doing a cold wash, high water, with no detergent followed by a hot wash, low water with 1/2 of normal detergent (as suggested by Jillian's Drawers).

On this washer there is a 'Sanitize' cycle that is for "heavily soiled items..diapers" and is Extra Hot wash, Cold Rinse, High spin speed.  There is also the option for 'Auto Soak', '2nd Rinse' and 'Stain Treat'.

Anyone else have this washer?  Do you do the two loads similar to what I had been doing with my non-HE?  Or do you do just one on 'Sanitize' (or something else)?  Do you add any of the additonal options like 'Auto Soak'?

I'd like to ensure they are clean enough without using too much extra time and water - advice would be appreciated :)

Re: Kenmore HE Washer

  • I have the same washer. I've only been CDing for a few weeks now, but my routine is to do an express wash, no detergent, cool water, no spin, followed by a kidswear cycle with hot water and a second rinse, using 1 tablespoon of Rockin Green.  I've read that you shouldn't use sanitation cycles because the temp is too high and could damage the dipes.

  • Thank you for responding - I hadn't heard that about the sanitize cycle so I'll stay away from that and try what's working for you!
