Most docs define STTN as 5 or 6 hour stretches, no matter when they happen. So if your LO sleeps from noon to 6 pm, that's considered STTN. I'm counting any nights where I only have to wake up once (LO goes down around 10 after eating at 8 and sleeps til 6, waking me around 2 to eat).
STTN is technically 5-6 hours straight. Nathan has been sleeping 10 hour stretches at night since Christmas Eve and Ryan is doing 5-6 hour stretches. R is our smaller twin so I'm not surprised he still needs to wake in the night to feed. I'll take however long I can get from either twin. It beats the HeII out of feeding every 2.5-3 hours!

I think of it as at least 5 to 6 hours. My LO will sleep from 10 pm until 6 am most nights and when she doesn't do that it's usually 10 pm to 3 am for a feeding and then 4 am to 6 or 7am.

WOW. What the H are we doing wrong? He slept from 1030-130...then 2-430..then 5 -8...During the day he is eating almost every 2 hrs on the dot...He is 5 weeks old on Saturday...Hmmmmmm. Any advice? I would love to put him down at like 10 and not have him wake up until 5. That would be amazing. What should we do?
DD sleeps 8 hours straight, usually about 10-6. She wakes up, eats, and goes back to bed until about 10. So 8 hours then 4 hours, then she's up for a while.
This is Kinsley too, almost to a T...however, she usually gets up at 9 and then is up for a while.
and ps. love that she's wearing your baby clothes!

I'll tell you what a women from my church told me.
Do a bath every night and massage with lotion. Feed LO a big bottle or BF. Then put to bed. when LO wakes up, do not interact, talk, or even make eye contact with LO. LO will learn it isn't fun to be awake at night and will sleep. I stop talking to DD as soon as we are leaving the bathroom. DD has been STTN since day 2 of this.
I normally take most advice from other moms with a grain of salt, but this woman is a mother of 8 (ages 17-3). at this point I'd jump off a bridge if she told me to! lol.

some say sttn is a 5 or 6 hour stretch. i dont agree with this. sttn to me is when baby goes to bed at a normal hour and wakes at a normal hour. going to bed at midnight and waking at 5 is not a full nights sleep. last night DD went to bed at about 9:30 or 10 and woke at 7:30. to me - THAT is sttn since thats a timeframe i would normally sleep.

My LO is similar. She still does this some nights. Now she sleeps from 11 pm -4 am then 4:30-7 or 8 am, eats like crazy. then sleeps until 11 am. She ate about every 2 hours until she was 2 months old.
Re: What is STTN to you?
i was happy with 5 or 6 straight hours. for two weeks now i lay him down around 9:30 and dont see him til 6 or 7. i'll take it!

To me it's when he doesn't wake up at 3 or 4am to eat. Going by the 5 hour rule, he's been STTN since we stopped waking him to eat at 2 weeks old.
Last night he did 8pm to 5am, ate, and went back to sleep until 7:30. My goal is 8 to 8 with no wake ups.
