HSG cost

What was the cost of your HSG in total.  For me I had 3 seperate charges 1 for my Dr. one for the radiology center for the use of the equipment and one for a radiology tech to produce the pictures.  In total I am looking at $1200.  It is covered by my insurance but I have to pay the entire amount because I have not hit my deductable for this year.  I was a little shocked that my provider didn't have a lower negotiated rate, (since they seem to for everything else and based on that I thought it would be about $600).  Anyone recall what your billed amount and negotiated rates were for the HSG.

I'm now feeling like Captain Crankypants!

Thanks,

Sarah

I just looked, and my total charges for my HSG were about $2300, and I paid about $280 OOP after my insurance.

My HSG was about the same. $1200. Paid $580 after insurance which I was surprised insurance covered it at all but I think they used my PCOS as a diagnosis instead of IF.

I have no IF coverage so I understand your pain. Insurance sucks right along with IF!

I don't have IF coverage, but they do cover IF diagnostics, just not actual treatments, medications or monitoring associated with it.  The weird thing is that they ARE saying it is covered since it is a diagnostic test and yet I am still paying $1200.  I thought that their negotiated rate would be around $600 and that I would have to pay all of that just like you.

    Thanks for responding!

I am 100% oop for all IF related costs, even diagnostic.  My cost was about $550 to $580 for the hospital fee, radiology fee, and some other fee.  This was the least expensive and rec'd by my RE.  The other clinic/hospital was about $1300 to $1700.  Ouch.

Is the $1200 your deductable for the year? Hey you know what you can do...Call the billing office and ask them to explain the bill because you don't understand why you have to pay the entire amount. They will be able to explain even down to what diagnosis was used and everything (well as long as you have someone nice) They may help. If it is your deductable at least you met it for the year ~ Unless your new insurance kicks in as of Jan?

I was told it would be $2000 OOP and we triple checked to make sure it would be covered by insurance when we have it scheduled.  I was surprised--I did not think it would be that much!

Mine was $1500 including the cost of the test (at a hospital) and the radiologist. My insurance covers 90% so I paid $150.  My insurance covers up to $25,000 in tests and treatment for infertility; unfortunately I've already used a few thousand of that for tests :(

Mine would have been about $700 with the RE (we didn't do it, but that's another story). I think it is cheaper because the RE actually does and reads the HSG in the office, so there's no charge for radiology and you don't have to pay the radiologist.

My insurance covered it, except for my copay. They paid 580.00. Mind you, this was at the OB practice and not the RE.
