How much time do you spend

Taking kids on errands vs. taking them to play (park, kid's museum, or play at home). Post below got me thinking. I'm home partime. I take kids on errand/grocery store one day I'm home, the rest of our time is playing at home (some independent while I do chores ) or outside weather permitting.

Re: How much time do you spend

  • There is usually one day a week that is for errands/chores, and the other days are fun stuff for them....like this week we did some errands on monday and spent the rest of the day at home playing.  Tues/Wed were both playdate days (we had plans to meet friends), and tomorrow we'll be out and about so I'll take them to Chick-fil-a for lunch and play.  Friday we have a playdate at a neighbors house and another playdate/party that evening with a few families for NYE.  On a regular week, when DS #1 has preschool 3 days a week, we usually have a playdate on at least one of his days off, and then spend the other day off doing things like haircuts, library, and a sports class they are enrolled in.

  • I work FT as does my DH so we do end up taking them on errands at least part of one day of the weekend.  We try and run them at lunch during the week or after the kids go to sleep but sometimes it just does not happen.  I would guess we spend 1-3 hours a week on errands with them, they are in school MF 7-4:30 while we are at work and we play the rest of the weekend/evenings in addition to the naps, baths, eating, etc.

  • I am a SAHM but we are never ever home. M,W,F DD has preschool, MW DS has MDO. I use my W,F without kids to run earrands and do the house cleaning so I can be totally on when I have them. After school we come home and play until dinner, Tuesdays is swimming, then a playdate at a park or resturant, Thursdays is our home day to play and me to catch up on house work. I rarely run errands with them it is just so much easier to do it while they are in school.
