There is no real difference in them, or what they do. Some doctors just prefer the suppository because they believe that you end up getting more of the medication that way because it is absorbed straight into the blood stream and sent where it needs to be, where as orally it has to first go through the digestive system and some of it will be filtered out through the kidneys.
So some people think you end up absorbing more of it vaginally, but there is no major difference shown in either rout.

My OB said there is no difference as far as effect and absorption. I took them orally through 1st tri and certainly think it was easier. I've read a lot of stories about irritation and spotting on the suppositories, so for me, I'm glad I was able to avoid that.

Our doctor said that the suppositories absorb quicker because they are essentially put right where they need to go, whereas the pills have to go through the bloodstream first.
I think if your progesterone isn't that low to begin with the pill is probably a fine choice, but if your progesterone is dangerously low they may put people on the suppositories instead?

I was given a choice between oral and suppositories and I chose oral. I didn't feel like sticking anything up my vagina to be honest and it seemed like a hassle. I ended up having to take 4 pills a day, so to some, that might be a hassle, but I preferred it. I think suppositories might be more easily absorbed and quicker, but oh well - I preferred the oral medication and it worked fine!
Re: Also, a Progesterone question.
