OB to RE back to OB?

I started TTC w/my OB for the first 6 mos only with clomid & had 1 pregnancy ending in M/C & then after being diagnosed with PCOS & IR, I started with my RE. Well to sum it up, in 1.5 yrs & one c/p out of that, I have stopped treatments in July this year. My final straw was due to having 2 REs in the same office, seeing both of them & they both were not on the same page. In July, 1 RE asked why I was doing this treatment, it doesn't seem to work & was unsure why MY RE did this protocol for me. I just thought "that's enough, I'm not playing back & forth games here" & really wanted a break.

Fast forward to today when I had my annual pap w/my OB. He of course has always prayed for a pregnancy for us & he had told me if I wanted to do clomid or femara with him, that I could. Of course now I know what appts are needed & what to look for & I am thinking about that in the back of my mind. What do you think? Go back to your OB for treatments? Another RE is around me but doesn't accept my insurance at all! TIA

Re: OB to RE back to OB?

  • I woudln't..even if the GYN was willing to monitor you properly (which usually they aren't). It isn't their "job" to get you pregnant...I know they are highly educated, smart medical professionals but getting people pregnant isn't their specialty.

Besides, you really shouldn't be on Clomid any more. 6 months of Clomid is way too long...

I know it is expensive but your best option is to just go to the other RE.

  • My opinion is that if you are on the fence already about the protocol at your RE's office (and the inner squabbles going on there) and it would delay your treatment, then it can't hurt to give it a couple cycles with your OB. Is your OB willing to do clomid combined with IUI in the office, rather than just TI?   That said, if age and time are against you, I'd find a new RE and keep rolling.   Good Luck

  • That is what I have thought too, their work is basic & I would be basically telling my OB what to do & what to look for I guess. I don't believe their ultrasound techs would be that qualified like an RE's techs are. I could be wrong. Time is on our side, that is why I have done 0 treatments since July. I will be turning 29 in 2011 so a little time. IUI doesn't improve our chances that much, no MFI issues & I don't see my OB doing that, it would be basically TI.

I would just love to move forward being a foster/adoptive mommy instead of all this stress. I really just don't think it will happen. OB has great bedside manners & just wishes so much for this to happen for us & will call me if he ever has any birth mothers. We have so many JUST GRADUATED from high school teens that are pregnant in my town so I'm tempted to post a little something on FB in great class & manners that maybe adoption/fostering is in our cards!

  • It sounds like you are getting pulled in a couple of different directions.  Maybe you and your DH could do some soul-searching and decide between your options of more IF treatments or adoption/foster parenting.  My opinion is that if you want to proceed with treatments, you should go to the other RE and get a solid plan of where to go from here based on your test results, history, etc.  I agree with the previous posters that I would not do any more Clomid.

    Best wishes with everything!
