I looked down at my nipple and there was a crust or something on the nipple. Naturally, I picked at it and out comes the middle of my nipple. WTF? I nearly threw up in the Target dressing room! Anyone? Please chime in and tell me I'm not alone!!!
OMG, I thought I was totally alone in this. I was even too embarassed to mention it to my dr. Mine started after BFing DS and never quit... it's like dry skin flaking off (except that it's small flaky chunks coming out, leaving a small hole behind).
I hope it's dried colostrum, though my experience would say not... since mine never went away. To be fair, I was only done BFing DS for about 3 or 4 mos. before becoming pregnant again so maybe they haven't had a chance to become "normal."
Am I the only one bothered that this woman was picking at herself in the Target dressing room? What the world did you do with your piece of removed nipple once you picked it? Ew.
But I seriously doubt you removed any substantial part of your nipple - at least not permanently.

I did that once on the right side. It freaked me out.
However, when I looked at it it wasn't necessarily a hole it just looked like things were moved to the side when the colostrum was released and when it dried.
I'm going to go ahead and start clipping formula coupons now. Thank you ladies.
And, THIS.
for effect.

Well I assume she did what any sensible person would do and wiped it on the wall like a booger.

Hmm... I was picturing her flinging it up off her fingernail into the next stall.
I know exactly what you are talking about. This started for me super early (like late 1st tri). I've learned how to clean off the crusties without taking out a chunk. TMI---I actually have a little flappy bit, but I am careful not to pull it off because I've done that before and it hurt so, so much. I'm thinking LO will eventually get it off for me during nursing.
I swear to god, it's posts like these that make me so thankful not to share a board with some of you ladies. Some of you are going to be in for a rude shock when your babies are born. Honestly and Eye Roll.

Katkat and I are practically BFF. She knows I would rub lansinoh on her holey nips.

Jenerally,,, what did you mean we in for a rude shock? I think it's pretty gritty of me to be so "out there" with my holey nipple.
The way some people react on these boards to normal phenomena is just hilarious to me. Wait until you birth a child, bleed for up to 6 weeks, leak milk, have baby spit up, vomit, and pee on you ... wait until your kid poops up her back while you are out and you forgot the change of clothes ... wait until green snot drips out of your toddler's nose faster than you can wipe it ...
I could go on, but I'm hoping you get the point. Motherhood isn't pretty; I've seen quite a few EW OMG GROSS comments lately on this board from relatively simple and common occurrences. It amuses me.
ACTUALLY, I SHOVED THE PIECE BACK IN. IT WAS EITHER THAT OR BRING IT HOME TO DH FOR SHOW AND TELL
So is it water tight like a cork or are you still leaking? I need to know if this is an effective method in a pinch.
This had me laughing so hard. It's stuff like this that made me squander my day of no kids (they were at Grammy's) away on reading this board, instead of getting stuff done!

jenerally, it seems we cannot all be as calm and collected as you. I too am a soon-to-be mother of 3 and I've seen a lot. But losing chunks of my nip... now that still took me by surprise. It takes all kinds I guess.

I would imagine everyone knows about all that stuff and expects it(if not, surprise!) but no one tells you about the dried colostrum that can cause separation, hence the ews and omgs. I am sure you had the same reaction to some things prior to having any LOs because it is stuff that catches you off guard and it was all new.

I experienced this while BF DS#1. I also pulled the flappy bit and learned the hard way not to EVER do that again. Some of the worse pain I had felt and I had just had a c-section. LOL! Ladies, whatever you do don't pull the flappy bit. Oh, I also lost some "chunks" while BF and I was in no way prepared for that!! No one told me that would happen. My mother BF my sister and I until 1 year and she never had it happen, so, I am thinking not everyone would not this is a fairly common occurence. And, to be completely honest, it freaked the h*ell out of me. Can't wait for that to start again. I have already started to leak colostrum in the shower, which didn't happen until much later when I occused DH of spilling his drink on me somehow without me noticing..LOL. Something to look forward to in the coming months :O)
Add me to the list of the bechunked. Mine happened late 2nd trimester around the same time my nipples started peeling. Peeling! I've never felt more like my body hated me until that moment.
That was before the heartburn, though. The heartburn is what convinced me.
Re: HOLY NIPPLE !!!!! Part of it is missing?
OMG!! I have never heard of that!!
and it is normal? really? eeekkk, a bit scary...
I really hope I read this post wrong. A piece of your nipple is NOT missing...

Nope, not reading wrong. Hole in the nipple.

Thanks Hyfa...I would return the favor any day!

I think I've read it all now...
...and 2nd tri board is better? lol

I was having a rough day/night- so uncomfortable and getting cranky by the second....until I read through THIS POST.
BAWAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! This is hysterical! Thanks for making light of a (pretty) gross situation.
Corking up the nipple is just too funny..... I laughed out loud at several responses.
