they accidentally broke my water. I am now at home waiting for some contractions to start up.. has this ever happened to anyone else? we are going to the hospital sometime tonight, probably around 8ish if nothing happens. If this has happened to you, are you supposed to rest or walk around and be active? how long did it take for your contractions to start after the water broke?
Re: Membranes stripped and...
OMG. I had a nightmare about this recently then woke up thinking Nah, couldn't happen....could it?
When they broke your water was it a huge mess everywhere or a slight gush? I'm kinda shocked they didn't want you to go to the hospital now for their screwup and walk the halls there. Wow.
I would probably clean the house, make sure it's all ready, and walk a lot. I am sure your dr has you on a time schedule now, to be delivered within 24 hours (dumb yes, but what most of them go by), so I would want to do as much as I could before they decide to get you in and start Pitocin.
Good luck! And yes, that is really annoying that that happened!
this is pretty similar to how it went for me! once my water broke.. the contractions came on hard within an hour, but I was in early labour for a few hours prior.

So are you sure it broke? (I mean, since you haven't felt anything since) Also, why didn't they give you more instruction when you left? I'd be pissed for several reasons.
i am very sure it is broken, they checked it to make sure that is what it was. They gave me little instruction.. only to go home and get everything ready, and call when i start having contractions, and if i don't by tonight that i should call the midwife and go to the hospital and they would decide what to do depending on my progress i have made.
WOW! I don't think they 'accidentally' broke your membranes, I had to have mine broken both times when I was admitted with my last 2 pregnancies, and they had to use what looked like a crochet needle to puncture the bag! I'm totally thinking that when your water broke, it was already going to break and it just happened at the time he stripped your membranes.
Either way, I say pack your bags and take a NAP!
when I was trying to decide if I wanted my membranes stripped I read about this.
It's VERY rare. So rare that I considered it a negligible possibility in my decision.
I would say be lightly active. Walk a little if you feel up to it. Walking gives me contractions sometimes. But don't wear yourself out.
I think contractions usually start within by 6ish hours of your water breaking.
My doctor told me that if my water breaks before I'm in labor, and I'm not having contractions within 6 hours to come in.
