Trying to Get Pregnant

What Do You Think??

I have my TCOYF on my desk at work. My co-worker came up to me and asked if I was envisioning myself pg? She said when she had cancer her doctor's told her to envision the juice she had to drink eating her tumors like pac man. About a month later, her tumors were gone. She said it works just like the experiments with placebos. She said every night while laying in bed I should envision myself 8 months pg, that if I see something really cute for a baby I should buy it, or go ahead and paint the room that will be the nursery. I guess I'm so used to disappointment TTC I find it silly and just settting myself up for heartache. The other side of me says, what do I have to lose??

Do any of you toy with this exersize??? I almost feel embarrassed to post this... But, what do I have to lose right??

Re: What Do You Think??

  • While I do believe in the power of positive thinking...I dont' think I would start stocking up  on diapers and painting the nursery.  BUT, different strokes for different folks I guess.
So happy for my BFPB Steff13914 and her new twins! Welcome to the world sweet babies:) Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • While I do think you have to hope, envisioning yourself pregnant and buying stuff for a baby is a little over-board for me. I've had dreams of me pregnant, but I don't actively sit and think about myself pregnant. To each her own, I guess.

  • While I do believe in the power of positive thinking, I'm not sure if it works for pregnancy.  There is no placebo effect for pregnancy--you still need a fertilized egg to implant.  However, there have been documented cases of women believing so strongly that they are PG that they develop symptoms and even baby bumps, but never an actual baby.

  • I do think you need some sort of hope but I don't think that means buying baby stuff and painting a nursery. That seems over the top to me and I think it would just add more salt to the wounds.

  • I believe positive thinking will help you navigate through the path ahead, and it helps more when times are tough.  But I dont think it actually makes things happen just by thinking a different way - I think if you feel more positive and confident then you respond to situations differently and those responses are what change the outcomes. Although, mental health has been shown to have a major impact on our physical health.

I agree with above, where I would not go all out and buy diapers and paint the nursery just yet.  But thinking positive and keeping a good outlook will help you get through this tough time a little easier.

  • I agree with previous posters. I think I would drive myself crazy every month envisioning myself pregnant that a neg would be a huge huge let down.

You would have to be careful with this because you can actually make your body feel like you pregnant and go through all the actions and not be. There was a lifetime movie about it.

  • I'm most impressed that you have a copy of TCOYF on your desk at work. I hear so much stupid, unsolicited advice about TTC without anyone even knowing. :)

I love lifetime movies. This sounds like a good one

As for buying things and painting the nursery I think that is a little much. However, I often fall asleep thinking about being pregnant and being a mom. It just helps me fall asleep a little faster to think about something I am looking forward to. Do I think it will make me get pregnant faster? No, but I don't see the harm in it.

Everyone knows we've been trying. As long as we have and with my surgery and all..I'm just not ashamed. Plus, it protects me from hearing stupid things about pg people, or old wives tales people's grandmothers told them...lol.

  • Hmm...while I do think positive thinking is important, I almost feel like it's setting yourself up for disappointment. I always error on the side of...don't expect much, and if it happens you are pleasantly surprised :)
