I just scheduled mine for 1/26 (gulp!). I'll be 12w2d.
The lady on the phone said she's send me a whole packet of info in the mail to fill out and read, but in the meantime, what can I expect there?
I know that it is an u/s and a blood test, but what else? Do they tell you right then what they see? Is it abdominal or vaginal? What was your experience?
I'm just looking for stories or experiences because I can't stop thinking about it.
Re: 1st Tri Screening (NT Scan)
I think some places do it differently, but my tech took all the measurements she needed and at the end told me she thought everything looked fine, but was going to go over the results with the radiologist and then he would come in and take a look. So she stepped out and about 5 minutes later he came in and said everything looked fine, he took a peak himself (it was all abdominal for me), and then left and the tech came back and took my blood.
It was scary at first because the tech took all her measurements of the ovaries and things first, and does the baby last, so we were waiting about 7 minutes to actually see if the baby was okay or not!
That's my experience, I hope you go to a place where they tell you right away! Of course, you have to wait about 10 days for the blood test results, which I'm still waiting on. But they told me what they knew, so that was nice.
I've had the worst possible NT scan and the best.
It's an abdominal u/s, and the tech should be able to tell you right away if there are any obvious problems. They gave us the actual NT measurement itself right there, pointed out the body parts, etc.
Then it was three vials of blood, and we got the results a few weeks later.
I know its scary, but you're going to be great. And you'll feel better when it's done, and you know all is well with the LO.
It's a pretty routine abdominal u/s. With DD, they didn't tell me anything at the appointment, I had to wait until my Dr. appointment to find the results. We could obviously see the baby, but they didn't tell us the actual nuchal fold measurement at the u/s.
They can't just tell you results at the u/s, because it's the combination of the fold measurement and the b/w that give you your results.
