Would you buy costumes just for this?

H's nephew is having a birthday party in a couple of weeks.  We'd really like to go, as he's never had a "real" party before.  You're supposed to come dressed up as a super hero, costumes neither of my kids have.  I thought about rigging up some clothes, but I'd rather not hot glue/sew anything and ruin perfectly shirts/skirt.  Would you buy two costumes just for this?  Neither of my kids are really into the dress up thing.

I wouldn't buy costumes.  I'd just make a cape and a mask for each of them and they can wear regular clothes. 

I think I know of a mask tutorial.  I'll look for it.

It's a bat mask but I'm sure it would be easy to alter.

I'd just make something homemade and simple -- tie a cape with a towel or something if that's all you have, or go get some cheap felt and just cut a simple cape and mask. Sounds fun!

I made masks for DS birthday party in November (Incredibles theme). I got the pattern from https://disney.go.com/disneyvideos/animatedfilms/incredibles/ in the Activities tab. Use craft foam sheets and elastic string to tie them on. Then use old towels or cheap fabric to make capes. Super easy & super cheap.

I'd ask on my local freecycle board, or borrow from a friend.
