Ode to the Swing....and a Swing Question

So the girls haven't used their swings in a couple of weeks, and even before that it was only a couple of times a week (since they turned about 5.5 months or so).  They are so big, I was thinking of putting one or both away.

But this morning the girls were up at 5:45 with teething problems (they each have a tooth now!  Awwhh....my babies), so by the time we came downstairs this morning I was too exhausted to play with them on the floor very long.  So I plopped them in their swings and they were very happy to just sway for about 40 minutes while I ate my cereal and had a cup of coffee--- it was wonderful!!! Brought me fondly back to the days where they would camp out in their swings!!!

When did your babies stop using their swings?  I'm ready to have them out of my living room, but it was so nice to have them for some quiet time today.

  • I had such high hopes for the swing, but the boys never took to it.

I really really really wanted them to like the swing, and I still try and put them in it, but they just sit there in confused silence for 5 minutes and then all hell breaks loose.

     Sigh....

Ha! Mine are the exact same way. They hate the swing with a passion! I really wanted them to like it too, especially since it was so expensive! Oh, well, maybe the next one will like it!

To the OP- I would keep them for a bit since they both seemed to still like it! I am jealous of the breakfast and coffee break you got this morning!

  • We have already put ours away because my DS (5 months) is 20lbs and the swing barely sways with him in it b/c he is so heavy and it eats up the batteries trying to swing him....lol.  We have a travel swing too, that we received with my older DS, and we keep that out for DD b/c she has reflux and it seems to help her, but it barely takes up any room and to be honest she hasn't been using it much.  I am so thankful to have my living room back to normal, kind of, since now there is a jumperoo and an exersaucer in it but those don't bother me as much as the swing did.

  • DS gave up his swing 3 months ago. DD *still* naps in hers on the weekend. We took one down and moved the other to the nursery (when we moved one of their cribs into the master bedroom, freeing up space). Now we just have to work on getting DD to nap in a crib for longer than 20 minutes at a time before she gets too big for her swing (*gulp*).
