doulas?

Anyone have any expierence with a doula?  We are looking into it for the birth, but I would love to hear any info.

Thanks,
Melissa

Re: doulas?

  • I found some information at: https://www.americanpregnancy.org/labornbirth/havingadoula.html at the bottom of the page you can find doulas in your area. I'm interested in this as well, but am pretty early on in my pregnancy so haven't decided yet. Good luck!

  • I used a doula when my DD was born and it was awesome.  She met with us a few times while I was pregnant.  We went over a birth plan, she told me all about the drug options, gave me different excersizes.  She came to one appointment with me to meet my OB and had me call her after each of my appointments.  We called her once labor started and she met us at the hospital but would have come to our house if we had wanted her too.  She was with us until about an hour after DD was born and also came to visit once after.  She also helped me out with nursing a bit.  She was awesome.  She took wonderful notes of everything that was happening - the time certain things happened and such and made suggestions of things for us to ask the nurse/doctor.  She helped put me in different positions to keep me comfy and to get my DD to move during labor.  DH wanted to be very invovled so she also acted as a coach to him in the sense of suggesting things for him to do.

I would use her again if I was not having a planned c-section.

  • I had a doula for my first and I absolutely loved the experience!  I wish we had used her for #2- but we went "on our own."
