kinda not eff related. we went to the butcher today to buy some stew meat since we haven't been able to get to the farmers market. they sell the same stuff which is nice. anyway, the butcher scooped the meat with her gloved hands, into a plastic bag, then wrapped the plastic bag with paper and handed it to me. still with the gloves on. there were actually tiny bits of raw meat on the package. gross, right? shouldn't she have taken her gloves off? but then i guess they're putting gloves on and off all day? i requested another plastic bag to go over the paper since i had loose fruit in my cart. but she still had her gloves on to put on the new plastic bag.
have i just been missing that this is protocol (often really sidetracked watching the kids) or should i put in a complaint? i am not a germ freak by any means but it was gross to see raw meat on my package!!!
Re: does this seem right to you?
Thats really gross..
On a side note, Alhambra valley ranch had quite a bit of beef when I was there on Tuesday and the prices are fantastic. You can call their number and schedule a time to go to the ranch itself and get your beef. Its a pretty drive and fun to go out there to me at least.
Is this super far for me?

Gross, but I don't think it warrents a complaint. If she would have gotten beef for you and then went and got chicken with the same gloves, that would be a completely different story.
well, she's not taking them off from customer to customer, at least as far as i could see. i guess i'll watch more closely next time.

ooh, thanks for the heads up. i'll call today. ca bunny, they are in martinez out on alhambra valley road. beef and lamb. great prices, i think the beef is $3.99/lb and it's all pastured.
Can I just say again how much I'd love to be a NorCal EFFer? This post REALLY made me want it! The idea of going to a Farmer's Market (or a farm nearby) and being able to get good meat - WOW! Super nice.
Not to mention being able to hang out w/ you ladies! That would be pretty cool, too! My grandfather grew up in Concord
well just pack up and move! we would love to have you.
That would be worth a complaint. I used to work at a deli and seafood counter. We were supposed to change gloves between customers, or products that would cause cross contamination. However, if you ordered turkey we would bag it and wrap it and then tag it with the same gloves.. Of course, it was cooked, so no chunks of raw meat to deal with.
