TTC

Hi Everyone

Im new and have been lurking around for a while. My husband and I got married on 10-9-10 and decided we wanted to start a family sooner than later. So I stopped using my bc last month and have been eating healthy, taking prenatal vitamins etc.

Is there any other advice?

Also how long did it take you to get your periods back on a regular schedule after going off of bc? Every 2-2.5 weeks I spot for 3-5 days...  which is soooo annoying!

Re: TTC

  • Definitely lurk around the TTGP board, lots of good info there.  I enjoyed charting my cycles and knowing what was going on with my body.  I ditched BC the first week in Nov. last year, and didn't have a normal period until end of Jan.  This is where charting really came in handy.  I suggest fertilityfriend.com if you want to go that route.  Good luck!

  • I'd been on BC for 10 years.  When I went off of it, nothing changed for 3 months.  Then I had a long, irregular cycle and wound up pregnant.

  • I was on BC for 11 years and got lucky that my body stayed on schedule (30 day cycles) immediately after stopping BC and got pregnant the 4th month off.

I'd agree with pp and say lurk around TTGP, they tend to have a lot of good advice.  Good Luck!

  • I stopped taking BC in March of 2010 and we used back up protection until we were ready to TTC in May after a family vacation. My first two cycles off BC I had a 35 and a 33 day cycle. The beginning of May, I spotted and didn't consider it to be a real period until I found out that I was pregnant in June- the first month we were actively trying. Each person is completely different. I took prenatals for three months before my BFP and I charted and took my temp each morning. If you want to learn about charting, head over to fertilityfriend.com to sign up and learn all about it. I also would suggest reading "Taking Charge of your Fertility" Best of luck!

  • I was on BC for 10+ years when we started trying...went off in July of 2008 and was pregnant in November.  I charted with Fertilityfriend and nothing changed with my cycle, it was 28 days on the pill and 28 days off the pill...even after I had my son, my cycles went right back to normal.
  • Congrats and good luck on your TTC journey!

It's really so different for everybody.

With DD1, I went off the pill (after 6 years). We were not trying to conceive, and with our work scheduled, rarely had "time together", and I just was not good about taking my pills - that's why I went off of them. I stopped at the end of November, and was pregnant in the beginning of April - so about 4.5 months. I didn't keep track of my period or cycles, but I know things were pretty sporadic.

I went back on the pill with DD was 8 weeks old, and went off again when she was 9 months old with the plan of "not trying, but not preventing". I had a period 2 weeks later, and that was it. I was pregnant.

  • Hello-

My husband and I got married 05-15-10. I started taking the pill in April 2010. I stopped taking the pill at the beginning of July and I got pregnant in August. I exercised, ate healthy, and took prenatal pills as well, so you are on the right track. My advice is to avoid worry and just let it happen.

     Well Wishes!
