Identical Twins to tell apart!

Hi!
I gave birth 5 weeks ago to ID girls who are about to come home from the NICU-YAY!  I can tell them apart..however my husband seems to not be able to nor can our families...other than the nail polish on a toenail...and keeping their hospital bracelets on...was curious if any of you had any great clever ideas!?
TIA

Re: Identical Twins to tell apart!

  • Nope - we use the nailpolish on the toe trick.  I can tell my guys apart (most of the time) when they are right next to each other, but split them up, and I get it wrong every time.  Or take single pictures and I have NO IDEA!!

  • we didn't do the nail polish, but we did keep the hospital bracelets on as long as possible. i also wrote their initials on the bottom of their feet (with a crayola marker) and dressed them differently. give them each their own color(s), and keep a note on the wall with a key. we also always kept them in order, but that only really worked when they were sleeping. :)

  • We got some surgical markers from a hospital supply, but I never needed them.

  • We used the hospital bracelets for about two weeks.  Then we painted Lucas's big toenail blue.  Now we both can tell them apart due to a size difference.  Also we assign a color to each of them.  Lucas is always blue and Nicholas is any other color.  This is what we do with bottles and clothes.  We were going to make them stretchy ID bracelets to put on their ankles but we never have done that yet.  Our family still has a hard time telling them apart!  Your husband will figure it out soon enough.  My husband got a little nervous when I decided to take their bracelets off (they were getting too tight!) but he has been able to tell them apart lately.  If he can't figure it out he just asks me.  I hope this helps!
  • well, my 3 came home on monitors so the girls were labeled for quite some time anyway.  but, had they not been i would probably have left the id bracelets on for as long as possible.  after that i have no idea!  with my girls, i just looked for identifying characteristics.  for example, cameron has a stork bite in between her eyes and ella does not.
  • We always had one in pink and the other in purple. Molly has always been my purple baby and Lilly my pink. If they weren't wearing their colors, they had a blankie or a binkie with their colors.

  • We did the painting the toenail trick too!
  • We did the toenail thing too.. I painted all of their toenails though.. Allie's were darker pink and Abby's light pink.  I still do them in the same colors :-)
