T&P Update

About a week ago I posted that I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Thank you to all of you gals that responded with kind words.  I have been coming to this board as a mom for over 4 years now for advice and support on parenting.  It is a place of comfort for me - it's like hanging out with the girls. 

I am still posting this under another name as I prefer to keep this part of my life private for now as my family and friends do not know of my diagnosis yet.  I am waiting until January to tell them out of my desire to not ruin their holidays with my "cancer bomb". 

I am coping as best as I can and would ask for continued thoughts and prayers as I face the most difficult journey in my life.    I have started a blog documenting my journey and experiences.  I had my first minor surgery on 12/23 and will have major surgery in January.  I am scared but full of hope as my cancer was caught early on.

I do have to get on my soap box just for a minute.  PLEASE, PLEASE get your mammogram.  If you don't have one scheduled and need to, do it now!  Also, email or talk to the other women in your life about doing the same.  No one should here the words "I am sorry, you have cancer".  If caught earlier than me, the survival rates are 98%.  Please commit to yourself that you will do this.  Don't join my breast cancer club because it sucks.  I don't hang out on this board as much anymore, my time is on breast cancer support boards.  I hope in time I can find a better balance in my life, but for now this is how it is.

I just read your entire blog. I'm so sorry for your dx, but it sounds like it is the best possible dx (if there is one) I hope you get good news from your latest surgery. You, your husband and son are all in my thoughts and prayers.

My T&P are with you and your family as you face this battle.  My SIL (40 years old) was diagnosed earlier this year with stage 4 metatastic breast cancer and is now fighting for her life.  "Unfortunately" for her, the breast cancer didn't grow much in her breast (hence it not being detected earlier) but decided to go wild in her stomach and small intestine.

Try to remember, that cancer is a word, not a sentence.  It's a phrase I heard several years ago when my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer for the first time.  I always think of it when I start worrying about him (he just went through treatment for the 3rd time) or my SIL.
