I am pretty small. I did gain weight during fertility treatments, but 35 seems low for twins. Maybe it's because I am 5'2"?
I will have a consult with a peri at 18 weeks, but other than that I am with an ob.
all of the obs in my practice as well as my peri have been consistent in saying 35-45 pounds is recommended for most women, but it does vary by initial size. I'm tall and slightly overweight to begin with, so they recommended about 40 for me.
My OB told me 40lbs, but if I gained 45 she would not be worried. I was up 8lbs by 10 weeks. I also had no ms so I ate all the time my first trimester.
I've also heard 35-45 lbs., although Dr. Luke's book (and I think my "Having Twins" book) recommend 40-54, I believe, if you are average weight to start out with. Personally, I'm 5'7" and started with a healthy BMI and am aiming for 40-45 lbs total. (It's looking like I might overshoot that a little bit, but I'd rather err on the side of gaining a little too much if it means my babies stay well-nourished.)
I think the big thing is to stay consistently well-nourished throughout your pregnancy and to eat lots of protein!
That does seem low, although I was a little piggy and gained 40 with my daughter 10 years ago. I would love to be able to stick around that same number with twins. The exercise ban my RE put me on is not helping though...
I am 5'11" and started at a healthy weight. I gained between 55 and 60 pounds. I weighed myself when I got home from the hospital (3 days after having the twins) and I had already lost 45 lbs. I lost the rest by the time they were 4 months. I didn't focus too much on what I was gaining and just made sure to eat a lot of healthy food throughout the day. I think 35 seems really low. I would see what the peri says.
My OB said the same thing....35lbs. I am 5'4 and started at 119 which was after some weight gain from fertility treatments. She said it wouldn't be bad for me to go over it, but I was surprised at first too by the low number.
Yeah, considering 25-35 lbs is recommended for singletons, a flat 35 really is low for twins. It's also odd to me that they would give you just one number; I think a range is more realistic.
That's seems awfully low. My OB told me to expect to gain about 50 pounds. I gained 55 and she never said a word to me about my weight. I also spent the last 10 weeks of my pregnancy on bed rest and I had GD which dictated my diet to some extent. I lost all of my baby weight by the time my girls were 2 months old...
Seems a little odd. Guess every Dr. is different, I kept asking how much should I gain and they kept saying keeping going if we feel it's too much well let you know. I was 120 when I got pg and ended at 166! I'm 5'7"

Seems too low. I gained 65 lbs with my twins, and they were big for 35w6d -- 5.4 and 7 lbs. I was slightly underweight before I got pregnant, and am 5'8". Today I'm 10lbs above my prepregnancy weight, and I haven't dieted and I quit pumping at 6 weeks.
I gained 33lbs. by the time I had my twins at 33w4d... They were 4lb 8oz and 3lb 12oz.. I really "Tried" to gain weight, especially in the beginning, and ate lots of protein, etc. but there was a point later in the pregnancy where I hadn't gained a pound in 7 weeks. I just don't think I was able to gain anymore, but the babies kept growing, so that was most important.
