We found an agency that will work with us (and our county) with adoption through the state. The lady didn't seem very positive about the program since most kids come from the city and need to stay in the same zip code (I'm assuming they have nearby family and don't want to leave their school). She said some are allowed to placed in any county though. I have a feeling our wait will be long.
Something she said I didn't understand though. She talked about how some kids are legal risks and still need visitations with their parents. I understand both of these concepts indivdually, but not together. Wouldn't that be fostering and not adoption then?
We are signed up to go attend their orientation meeting in about two weeks, so I'll definitely get more answers then too. I'm just excited to find an agency that works with our county.
Re: YEA!
After 6 months if the parent still hasn't done the things they are supposed to then generally the child is released for adoption. After that there could be another 4-12 months before the adoption is finalized.
At least this has been my experience with my daughter.
Glad you found a program for you!
There are lots of different programs out there, it sounds like maybe you are fostering to adopt?
We did straight adoption, termination of parental rights took place 24 hours after he was born. He's been with us since he was 2 hours old.
that was our experience.
Well we aren't exactly looking to foster to adopt (although I do understand the pre-adoption fostering that happens even with adoption). We are looking to adopt from the state.
That makes sense now as to why we would have to continue with birthparent visitions. I'm not against bithparent visitions, I just thought it was odd that they would dictate them if we adopted. During the first few months while we're technically foster, it does make sense though.
Thanks for the insight!
