Last pg and the start of this pg, I did not want one. I am afraid that I am going to freak myself out (DH fears this too). But now I am beginning to get nervous and want to hear the heartbeat (it is 3 weeks until my next appointment).
Any thoughts on why should/shouldn't get a doppler? If I should get one, any sugestions on the type?
My other thought is that my dr has been great so far. I wonder if he would be willing to do a quick doppler appointment with me 1 day next week. Would that be horrible? I don't want to be a crazy lady, but I am nervous.

I'm not very far along (just over 4 weeks) but this was a hot topic of discussion between DH and I. DH didn't seem to think it was a great idea, but I told him that I really wanted to get one. The plan was to buy one, but not until we were able to hear the heartbeat at the doctor's office successfully on a doppler. I'm just a huge worrier by nature and I know I'll need that reassurance in between appointments and when I'm still not able to feel the baby move.
There's really not any right or wrong decision though. Some people get one and are glad they did while others say it only stresses them out more when they're not able to find a HB.
Maybe see if you can rent one or borrow one from a friend before investing in one of your own.
I'd rather have one than not. I had one with my second pregnancy and really liked it. Of course, I never had an incidence of not being able to find the heartbeat. The further along you get the more likely you are to consistently be able to find it.
However, if you feel that would freak you out, then perhaps ask your doc for a quick weekly doppler check until you can start feeling the baby move. I know my doc would have no issues with that given my history.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

my best friend rented on through babybeats.com for both pregnancy's. She swears by them. She returned them when she started feeling baby move regularly.
As for me I would love one, but know from experience that baby can have a strong heartbeat when all is going wrong. Its such a hard choice. I say rent one and if it makes you crazy return it! That would probably be your best bet. I will be seeing the dr every two weeks starting in January so I'm not planning on getting one.

I have one and I am very glad I got it. The way I saw it...I could be nervous because I had no way of hearing the heartbeat...or I have at least a 50% chance of relieving those nerves. I have a very large SCH and the doppler is a huge comfort to me between appointments.
I have the sonoline B doppler.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
I have one but I am not sure I will use it. I was finding the hb by this time last time.
I think I would have PTSD if I couldn't find a hb this time (I was the one who thought the baby died and asked to come in when I couldn't find the hb myself). I don't want to put myself through that again. But on the flip side, I thank God every day I knew coming in that day it was most likely bad news. But this time, since I go into each appt. expecting bad news no chance of being blindsided anyway. *Slinks away like Eeyore*

I rented a storkradio doppler for six months with my DD and it gave me peace of mind when I couldn't feel her movement. I never had a problem hearing the HB with it.. was really good quality doppler. Similar to what my OB used.
