Upstate NY Babies

Day 2 of potty training

So I'm off this week and she was showing signs of readiness, asking to go potty and following thru so I was commited to starting this week.  Christmas night we took away everything that had to do with diapers including wipes and changing area and left her a wrapped up gift of undies from Santa to find in the morning.

We started yesterday, went thru 9 undies and not a single success.  She woke up at 1:00 at night wet and crying.  I told her she could wear a diaper at night time and she kept saying that Santa took all her diapers but I convinced her I could find one from my purse and she was ok with it until morning.  Today she's gone thru 3 undies but had one partial success right before nap.  I caved and tried to give her an out by saying I thought I could find more diapers or have Grandma bring us some but she insisted on the undies even for her nap.

We have a bathroom on the second floor and although we are trying to do activities in her room but she keeps wanting to play with everything downstairs.  And she is sick of drinking.  After our partial success I realize I have to let her walk herself to the potty and not just run and carry her to the bathroom.  I'm hoping this afternoon turns around.  DH has been good and not telling me to give up (which is surprising) although he did ask about pull ups a few times he's supportive in his own way.

Re: Day 2 of potty training

  • Hang in there!  It's tough, but I do think it works well.  Bravo for trying it at night...we are no where near that yet.  G still sleeps (naps and bedtime) in a Pull Up.

  • Good for you for sticking with it- she'll get the hang of it soon. J got Spiderman undies for Xmas and I told him all he has to do is pee-pee on the potty and he can wear them. He told me, "nuh uh" and wants nothing to do with them.

  • Good for you.. I hope it keeps getting better for you..

we haven't started yet.. but I think getting Eve her own potty for downstairs is going to have been a smart move on my part.. (I know the 3 day potty training book says its a no-no.. but you gotta do what you gotta do, I think) Yesterday she started saying "POOP POOP! QUICK QUICK QUICK!" but we got upstairs and she had just peed in her diaper and there was no poop anytime after that, so I don't know if she's just confused or what.. But I told her today after her nap she can go in pullups and try to use her potty downstairs.. and we'll see how that goes.. maybe in a couple more days I'll be ready to attempt switching to underwear. (I have to wash them all still anyway)

  • I think we started potty training around 2 and gave up til about 2.5, and then we had better luck.  They are sort of ready on their own time sometimes, I think.

As for the nighttime stuff, we are sticking with Pullups for a while.  Unless you are consistent about making sure they don't have anything to drink before bed, they can't really control it for a while.  Sometimes DD takes a nap (rarely) and she is so exhausted when she does that she usually wets the bed (or wherever she is passed out).  You could use one of those cloth pads under her for that though.

    GL!  It is tough!

  • Reed still wears pull ups to bed overnight.  He just started wearing underwear for naps a few weeks ago.  So far, no accidents, but I don't think he is ready for overnight yet.  He will have a stretch of waking up dry for a week or so, but then have a super full pull up some mornings.  Like others said, it is a physical thing they can't control for awhile so I would still use them for sleep to save your own sanity.
