Upstate NY Babies

***Telyco***

Hey there!  Hope you had a nice holiday!!  I just wanted to find out how much milk Leah is drinking now.  Dylan's Dr. can get a little confusing sometimes.  She'll tell me one thing in the office and then I get home and read the material they hand out and it will say something different.  The fact sheet said to give 16-20 oz/day but she told me much less.  She did say, however, that the dairy intake does not need to be all milk.  I remember her telling me this for Justin too.  And everything I'm reading on the internet says 16-20 oz.

Is Leah still on bottles?  We're weaning Dylan from the bottle now.  We've dropped down to 3 bottles/day.  He gets about 12 oz. of milk/day and then he also gets yogurt, cheese and other dairy.  He uses a sippy for water, but he tends to drink some and then spit a lot out.  That's why I worry about just doing a sippy for the milk, as I want to make sure he's still getting the recommended amount.

Hope all is well with you!

  • We do still give Leah bottles...our ped told us to stop but Evan basically weaned himself from them at about 16 months - so I'm not in a big hurry. Leah does great out of a sippy for water but with milk she isn't that great so I want to make sure she gets enough. Our friend's ped said it's ok to give bottles until 2 because milk is still very important to their diet. So I relaxed a little after hearing that - and then suddenly Evan just stopped needing them (he was getting to age where he was asking for them for comfort, though I think)

We give her a bottle with 6oz when she gets up, a bottle with 6oz at some point in the afternoon (before her first nap if she is up for a while - it also helps her to sleep longer) or after her first nap. And then 8oz before bed. I'd say she actually eats about 15-16oz a day (sometimes more, sometimes less) And she does get cheese everyday and yogurt probably every other day.

We try with milk sippies at meal time - and she is ok with them...but most of it dribbles right out. I haven't tried warming it, though...maybe I should.

So yeah, I wouldn't rush getting rid of the bottle yet if you think his intake would go down a lot. I plan on just working with her on drinking milk from a sippy and hopefully it'll kick in and I can start dropping more bottles.

And yes, thanks - we had a nice holiday! And DH is home again today which is really nice! But we've been working on ditching/packing/cleaning so it hasn't been totally relaxing :) but still fun. I hope you had a nice weekend too!

  • We stopped bottles with Justin at 15 months so I'm basically using that timeframe with Dylan as well.  I still have three more months!!  I know that I'm going to have a harder time with ending bottles than Dylan will.  Just another thing that makes me realize Dylan is growing up :o(  And sounds like we give Dylan his bottles at the same time you do Leah.  I was doing four/day and then dropped one that he was getting late morning.  Now he gets one when he wakes up, mid-afternoon and before bed.

Is Leah's b-day party coming up?  I think you had said you wanted to wait until after the holidays.  That's a great idea!!  It was SO stressful having Dylan's party a week before Christmas.  And since you're moving too you must be even more stressed out!!  I'm dreading the house hunting again.  We have SO many toys now from Dylan's b-day and Christmas that I don't know what I'll do with them when people come look at our house.  There are too many to shove in the closets or under the beds.....lol.

  • I think we're going to have Leah's party on January 29th (or whatever the last Saturday is)...I just want to make sure we actually close on Thursday before we make it official since there has already been one delay. It'll be good though, because our families want to see the new house so they can all come at once instead of a steady trickle like last time!

I can't believe she turns 1 on Sunday - it is so crazy. We can't believe how big she is and how close she is to walking. I talk about it 3 times a day.

And yeah - all the toys! We donated a bunch before Christmas that were getting ragged and never played with - but since Evan's birthday is in November...we'll be getting a whole bunch at once for quite a while! If I can talk DH into another baby then he or she will just have to be born in a different season...haha!! I can't even imagine trying to show this place before we're out - people would run away!!!
