Pregnant after a Loss

Decreased movement concern

For the past 7 weeks that I've been feeling movement, it's been very constant and strong - to the point that it would even wake me up in the night sometimes. And she's been pretty consistent too, always moving a ton when I lay down to go to sleep and about 6:30 in the morning. For the past 24 hours, I've hardly felt anything. I have a doppler, so I've checked the heartbeat a couple of different times, and it seems fine. I'm only at the end of the 2nd trimester, so it seems kind of early to me for the lack of room to be the cause just yet. Should I be concerned that there might be something else wrong? What would you ladies do?

Re: Decreased movement concern

  • I freak out about this too.  There are just some days where my LO is quiet and drives me crazy with worry.  Keep listening to that heartbeat and try and relax (easier said than done!).  GL

  • She's still small enough that she could have flipped and is kicking you in the back. Normally dr's start kick count at 28w, but it never hurts to give them a call.

  • No advice but I just want to let you know you aren't the only one. I'm panicking at my desk now because I haven't felt a real movement since yesterday afternoon.

Right now I'm trying to bribe baby with a Hostess cupcake. if that doesn't work he's getting a pony.

  • This happened to me, too.  I posted that I had a crazy active baby since 18 weeks, then at 25 weeks, nothing!  I freaked out (he was still moving a little, just not nearly as much).  Then about a week later (this week), he's back to his old games - not as strong, but I can feel that he's heavier, if that makes sense.  The movements are just different, they seem slower and not as poky - more rolling/moving.

Always call if you are concerned, but I just want to let you know that I had a crazy active one who slept for nearly a week and scared the bejeezus out of me.  I did read in the book (Week by Week) that baby sleeps most of the 25th week.  Growth spurt?

  • If it were me, I would call. Your peace of mind is worth it.
  • If you haven't already and it will make you feel better, call. Don't worry about being a pest or a squeaky wheel. Do what you need for peace of mind!

As a general PSA, a doppler can give you a false sense of security. It's a good sign, but you should still call your doctor if you don't feel 10 kicks in 2 hours after 28 weeks (or whatever kick count guidelines you got from your Dr). When I went in to L&D after my DD "failed" a kick count, the Dr. got a good strong heartbeat on their fetal heart monitor and sent me home. But something WAS wrong.  I don't say this to scare the OP or anyone else. I'm sure your LO is ok and was just having a quiet day. It's totally normal for that to happen and then have LO keep you up all night kicking up a storm! I'm just always inclined to speak up when people are concerned about decreased movement and rely on their doppler for reassurance.
