Husband in surgery

well my husband;s diabetes is starting to effect him finally. He has developed advanced retinopathy and lost most vision in his left eye. I am sitting in the hospital now waiting for him to get out of surgery- virectomy. this is his second in six weeks. I am so scared of what is to happen next. His right eye is not as bad but does has pretty aggressive retinopathy as well. dr is doing laser treatments on it to try and prevent that one from losing vision as well. He is 33 and going blind.. with a 4 year old daughter. so very sad

  • Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that. I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers.

Is he a real brittle diabetic? It can be really hard to manage sometimes. GL!

  • So sorry. It is hard for me to remember that diabetis can be like that. My dad was dx with juvenile diabetes as a teen and it has always been a part of our lives. He has been able to manage it without anybmajir problems that I'm aware of. I'm sorry that you guys are experiencing the other side of this disease. All the best to your family.
  • I'm sorry. I hope this shocks him into taking better care of himself.

I 100% agree. After all we have read about him I really hope he uses this as a wake up call.

  • I feel sorry for your daughter. I'm very sorry she has to navigate through this mess. This can't be good for her. But for your DH, it's pity he gets from me. It's hard not to pity someone who cares so little for themselves or how their health will affect their family. Somehow I doubt that losing his sight will be a wake up call.  He'll use it as just one more reason not to care because, "What's the point now, anyway?" I hope it's a wake up call for YOU, though.
