s/o - how do you store toys?

In particular, how do you store playsets -- especially the big ones (like Little People stuff.  The airport is freaking HUGE!)?

We have a couple cubby shelves and toy boxes in the boys' playroom, but I'm at a loss for what to do with all the big stuff and things with lots of accessories (which is why I almost exclusively buy the kids "self-storing" toys).

  • I have one of those storage bin things. Anything that is a set, i usually keep in plastic storage containers and then DH built a huge 5'x5' toy box they go in.

  • We have one of the Cubicals storage bookshelves. It's only 2 ft tall, then I have a bunch of various size Sterilite containers with locking handles (that the kids can do).  We put the bigger items on top of the Cubicals thing, or, like we have a huge bin of Little People and I sit the garage and house on top of that bin.

We're planning to have a big built-in wall unit built in the next couple months.  DH's friend is recovering from back surgery - but we're first on his job list once he's well.  That will be built to accomodate all the various sizes of containers we have - and what doesn't fit in the wall will find it's way out of the house!

  • We have the Trofast system from Ikea and all the playsets go on top of the units. All the accessories go in the bins (we have a huge dedicated Little People bin).
  • imageI've gotten a lot more bins since I took this photo, but this is pretty much it. A couple of big bins handle the dress up stuff.
