telling work

I work in a job that can be poetiantaly dangrous to the point where I get hit some times. I work with a young man that has autism and he hits sometimes when he gets mad. I work with another person that doesn't hit, but I will have to work in both homes more than likely. I haven't told my boss yet, I am waiting for my first appointment with my doctor. I don't know how this is going to effect things at work because I know for my baby's safety I shouldn't work in that home, but I also know that I am a full time staff member and have to full-fill my 40 hours a week on which I can't do at the other house alone because I would be taking 2 other staffs hours completely away. I could work midnights at the dangroues house, but I am also concerned about the night attacks that sometimes happen. Midnights are done with only one staff member and day shifts have two one of which is always a male. I am concern that when I tell my work they are going to have trouble figuring out the situation because of the potently danrgrous home. any advice on how to go about this situation?

Re: telling work

  • Hello, it sounds like you are in social work too.  You have some very valid concerns about your safety and your baby's safety.  I just remember hearing about a teacher out east who got punched in the stomach and she lost her baby.  I would be totally upfront asap with the baby.  Even if you use CPI correctly, you can still get hurt.  When I worked in residential, I would get the crap beaten out of me so I can understand your concerns but this is the time to put yourself first.  Good lucky :)
