Poll: Injections

There's been several injection questions lately, so I figured I'd do this poll to help us all out.  :)

1) Do you do the injections yourself or does DH do them?
2) If you do them yourself, do you go nice and slow, or do you poke fast?
3) If your DH does it, does he go slow or fast? (this sentenced can totally be construed) :)
4) Which meds, if any, sting you?
5) Do you dread injection time or look forward to it  b/c it's "one step closer"?
6) Do you "reward" youself after an injection somehow?

Re: Poll: Injections

  • Ok, to answer my own poll....

    1) Do you do the injections yourself or does DH do them? I've done some, but I prefer for DH to do them for me.

    2) If you do them yourself, do you go nice and slow, or do you poke fast?
When I do it, I go nice and slow.  It seems less painful that way.

    3) If your DH does it, does he go slow or fast? (this sentenced can totally be construed) :)
When DH does it, he goes fast.
    4) Which meds, if any, sting you?
Follistim and menopur both sting at times. I'm at high dosages so that could have something to do with it.  I found lupron to be the easiet.  Ganirelix causes site irritation which sucks.

    5) Do you dread injection time or look forward to it b/c it's "one step closer"?
I dread it.  :(  I'm sooo happy once its done and over with, but I do dread injection time.

    6) Do you "reward" youself after an injection somehow?
Usually, yes!  Whether it be with dessert or just going and relaxing afterwards, I try to do something I like.

  • I'll be starting IUI with injects soon for #2, but I'm answering from when I did them for DS.....

    1)  I did them by myself
    2)  I poked fast!
    3)  N/A
    4)  None
    5) I used to like it b/c it was one step closer!
    6)  Nope......I used to get allergy shots weekly when I was growing up, so the injects didn't scare me.....the needles on the injects are way smaller than any other injection/shot I've had....

  • 1.) DH does mine because it includes him in the process and honestly it is a hell of a lot quicker that way =)

    2.) n/a

3.) He does the needle fast (everything else is just right)

4.) The repronex/gonal f for last IVF stung a few times.

5.) I actually like to just hurry up and get it over with because I am anal and will sit and watch the clock until it is time. I can get on with my night once it is done.

    6) No - H and I used to high five each other after a successful and pain free shot - but we are pretty much pro's at this point and at the end of the PIO it was routine.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!

  • Oh, and I was supposed to say MISCONSTRUED up above... ay ay ay....
  • 1) DH wanted to be involved in the process so he does them as often as possible, but I do them sometimes myself.

    2) Usually slow and steady.

    3) Also usually slow and steady

    4) Lupron and Follistim have both stung at times.  I'm adding a LOT more this round, so I guess we'll see!

    5) Definitely look forward to it

    6) Not really

  • 1) Do you do the injections yourself or does DH do them?
DH does them.. I tried to do them but I just stood there and stared at the needle and I couldnt do it..

    2) If you do them yourself, do you go nice and slow, or do you poke fast?

    3) If your DH does it, does he go slow or fast? (this sentenced can totally be construed) :)
LOL!  I dont know fast or slow he's just very gentle :)

    4) Which meds, if any, sting you?
I've done Follistm for one IUI and and Menopur for another one...but not at the same time.. The Follistim stings like a beatch.. I hate it.. the Menopur I think maybe stung a few times.. we'll see.. this time I'm doing Follistim and Menopur (2 separate shots but at the same time. ugh..

    5) Do you dread injection time or look forward to it b/c it's "one step closer"?
I think I dread it.. but thinking of it as one step closer may help at this point..

    6) Do you "reward" youself after an injection somehow?
lol.. yeah.. everytime DH finishes doing the shot he tells me how brave I am and gives me a big hug and kiss.... I also used to eat cookies or something but that had to stop :)
  • 1) DH does them. I tried to do it myself one time when DH wasnt home and I went past my follistim dose and didn't correct it right. I pushed it in instead of turning it and lost a lot of follistim. I felt like crap!
    2)
    3)He goes pretty fast.
    4) HCG stings. Follistim stings every now and then.
    5) Look forward to it! I mean, I dread the fact that I have to do it at all, but we get so excited during treatment. We are both so excited when it's time to do the injection. Needles have never bothered me (I've been sick/in the hospital a lot).
6). No not really.  But during treatment/2ww DH is so amazing, he treats me so well.

  • 1) Do you do the injections yourself or does DH do them? I do them, DH does the HCG shot
    2) If you do them yourself, do you go nice and slow, or do you poke fast?  I poke fast, but I leave the needle in there for a few seconds afterwards just to make sure everything came out
    3) If your DH does it, does he go slow or fast? (this sentenced can totally be construed) :)DH is SO nervous with HCG shot, he goes too slow!
    4) Which meds, if any, sting you? I've been on Gonal-F and Follisism and neither stung, but HCG does

  • 1) Do you do the injections yourself or does DH do them? I've done every one except the IM shots.

    2) If you do them yourself, do you go nice and slow, or do you poke fast?  I try to go fast but I never do.  I know it's better but I always seem to slide the needle in slowly.

    3) If your DH does it, does he go slow or fast? (this sentenced can totally be construed) :)  He does the IM shots pretty quickly, thank god.

    4) Which meds, if any, sting you?  Menopur/Repronex sting a little.  Ganirellex didn't hurt going in but stung for about 20 minutes afterwards.  Sometimes PIO stings, but not always.  It's always a pain the a$$, though!

    5) Do you dread injection time or look forward to it b/c it's "one step closer"?  Stims (and Lupron when I was on it) I looked forward to, but I dread the PIO.

    6) Do you "reward" youself after an injection somehow?  Nope.  Too many injections - I couldn't come up with that many rewards!
