DS#2 got a cold that DS#1 and I had. We are on the mend, but both still have a persistent cough. DS#2 has the cough, and of course is so small he can't expel the mucous etc. like we can. He coughs to the point that he throws up after he's been asleep for long periods of time - he slept last night for 8 hours. During the day sometimes this happens, but it's not as bad because he's not asleep for as long.
So, he has a persistent cough and lots and lots of snot and mucous. I'm using the snot sucker to help get it out. He has a humidifier in his room. He doesn't have a fever. He is pooping/peeing and eating, but not as much as normal.
Should I take him to the ER to test for RSV? Last Thursday I went to doc and doc said it was just the cold we had - listened to ears and lungs, but didn't test for RSV. Would it be possible to have a cold convert to RSV? Or would both me and DS#1 have RSV if DS#2 had RSV?
TIA
Re: RSV?
I'm not a doctor, but RSV has been going around DD's school and both kids have been super congested. DS had a rough couple days so I took him to the ER to get tested. It is a virus, so I don't think it can come from a regular cold - but I'm no doctor. I would wait until tomorrow and just take him to the pedi unless he has a fever or any other really strong symptoms. Totally stinks! GL!
