SA Results

The count was 5.3 mil, 46% motil, 34% morph. Of course, did not speak to the doctor but the nurse said we need to go to an RE. I asked about a urologist and she said we could do that but that they would want a second SA. It seems to me we want a second SA no matter what.

Please let me know whether you have any thoughts on seeing a urologist or an RE first. The closest RE is 3 hrs away.

Also, with those numbers, would IUI be an option? Thanks.

Re: SA Results

  • I would probably make an appointment with both at this point. It does not hurt to have a specialist look at your Hs numbers and see if there may be something that can be done to improve everything.

And also, to see for you what will need to be done to acheive pregnancy. Sometimes REs can take a month or two to get into, so making one now will be beneficial.

Your right - no matter what at this point you most likely will need a second SA so that should nto be a concern. What should be is finding the best possible solution.

    Good luck!

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • Our RE said that SA results can vary drastically from one to the other so I would get a 2nd SA.  I would make an appointment with an RE.  I think IUI would be an option you can look into (definitely ask about it prior to proceeding to IVF).
  • My DH's first SA was a count of 6.9 mil (sorry I forget the mot/morph stats), and we were immediately told to make an appt with an RE.  At our initial consult with the RE, he ordered a bunch of tests for us including a repeat SA for DH, and had to schedule a follow-up with the RE for about a month later.  He told us that if DH's numbers came back in the same range (which they did), we should also try and meet with a urologist before our follow-up with him -- which we did.

I am not sure if IUI will be an option for you, but I imagine it would be.  Our RE said he would not go forward with the procedure unless DH had total of at least 5mil post-wash....

    Good Luck!
