Just came back from first IUI- DH's post wash count was only 3 million. I am confused because his pre-wash concentration was 36.5 with 3.9ml vol. They don't tell us the count, but I believe that you multiply concentration by vol to get count which would give us a pre-wash of 142 million. His motility was actually in normal range of 53% and he is usually in the low thirties so I am very happy about that, but what the hell happened in the washing that reduced his count so much?! I thought you only lose about 50%?
And, they were so crowded they told me I could only lie on the table for 5 mins! I stayed for 15 and just ignored the knocking on the door. I swear some dripped out.

Re: first IUI done and confused
The sperm is shot up pretty far to drip out. Some REs don't have patients lie on the table at all.
As far as your post wash count. Does your H have any issues with his sperm? The wash is to remove any none viable - dead sperm. Did you have sex recently? Most REs suggest having sex 2-5 days before an IUI to make sure your H produces the freshes sample possible for IUI.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I had my first IUI a week ago. My doctor didn't give me any numbers, he just said it was good. They said your uterus can only hold a small amount of sperm in it. They wash it to "pick out" the best swimmers. Then they concentrate that in the catater, and in they go! If the count was too low, I'm guessing they would have cancelled it.
You crack me up with ignoring the knocks on the door. I would have done the same thing! Who cares if they are crowed, they should give every one the best chances...especially for all the money we spend!!!
