IVF Michigan

Have any of you girls from Michigan used them?  If so, what have your experiences been like there?

I have decided to go there for my IVF even though the nearest location is 30 minutes from my house and the procedure location over an hour.  I hope I made the right decision rather than using anyone in the Lansing area.

Re: IVF Michigan

  • I just had a consult (2nd opinion) with Dr. Abuzeid yesterday. I'm pretty sure I'm going to switch clinics. He doesn't have the best personality, but I'm looking for results (after 2 failed IVFs with a different clinic). Dr. A/IVF MI has great stats, as does Dr. Mersol Barg (in Birmingham; in case you are looking for another exceptional doc with a better personality).
I'll be traveling 45 minutes to see him in Flint and over an hour to see him in Rochester for the ER and ET.
EverafterinMI, Fancycat and Laura&Dan are all on SAIF because of Dr. A/IVF MI.
    GL!

  • PS - He isn't mean or anything; just not very jovial. I didn't detect any sense of humor... He seems very serious to me, which is a good thing I guess.

  • Which location are you going to?  They don't do procedures in every location?

I went to the Rochester office and so did EverAfterinMI and Laura&Dan05.  I'm sure there is someone I am forgetting.  They have a very high success rate and know what they are doing.  I'm not familiar with any Lansing RE's but if you are the type of person that likes the numbers end of it IVF Michigan fits the bill.

    Good luck!

  • lol at Monkey's comment.  I'd say he's 'serious'.
  • I am seeing Dr. Shamma at the Brighton location but will have to travel to Rochester for the ER and ET.  I had to have my mock transfer last friday at the Ann Arbor location.

Have you heard anything about Dr. S?  He seemed nice enough and confident he can get me pregnant.  How did you go about choosing Dr. A - when I called for my consult I wasnt given a choice of doctors.

  • I picked Dr Abuzeid because he is the director of the clinic and is the best (IMO). I originally wanted to go to the Brighton office because it is closer, but Dr. A doesn't practice out of Brighton. I don't know anything about Dr. S. How far is Flint for you? Depending on where you are in Lansing, I'd think Flint would be just as close as Brighton; you could take 69 most of the way there.

  • The Flint location would be about 45 minutes - I live right near East Lansing, pretty close to I69.  My ob-gyn recommended the Brighton clinic, I think that she has an agreement with the doctors there because I will be able to do a few of my monitoring ultrasounds at her office.

I wonder why all of the doctors only work out of certain locations?

  • Well, all of the docs couldn't go to all of the clinics, so it kinda makes sense that way. GL!

  • Hi,

Like the other girls have said, I am/was a patient of Abuzeid out of Rochester. And obviously... I am really pregnant! They've got a few locations and just different docs regionally at those other offices. Rochester was the first one and the practice was built by Abuzeid and Fakkih. I just happen to be in the Detroit area and live closest to Rochester.

As they got bigger, they expanded and got more. I think it's just more logistics for the Dr.s as to where they practice out of. But the stats for IVF MI include all Dr.s and locations. But I am about 99% sure they do all the ER's and ET's out of Rochester. So they all use the same lab and such.

I don't know your Dr. but they do know what they are doing. They have the best success rates in the state.

    good luck!
  • Good point MonkeysGirl - it would be impossible for all of the doctors to travel to all of the locations across the state.  Guess my brain is telling its time to leave work and go home!

Good luck to you too - hopefully we will find success like some of the other amazing nesties did!

Thank you EverAfter and FancyCat for your responses - I really appreciate it!

  • I just switched to IVF Michigan from Michigan Comprehensive Fertility (MCFC) out of Clinton Township / Dearborn.  My initial consultation was with Dr. Asharaf and I felt 100 times more hope with him than I ever did with MCFC.  When I went in for my annual visit with my regular OB/GYN he told me that IVF Michigan is well known for being 'agressive' with treatment and most of the people that go there are there because they are frustrated with their current treatments or past treatments.

I really liked the office staff at the Flint office.  Now that we're living in Oxford, I may switch to the Rochester Hills office.  I haven't had too much experience with them because I've only had the one appointment, but from what I have seen / heard they have great success!

    Good Luck!!

  • I have to put in a plug for RMA of Michigan - maybe too far for you in Troy.  I drove 45 minutes to get there and it was completely worth it.  There are only 3 REs, 2 seem to do most of the hands on "work."  You see one of the doctors at each of your monitoring appointments.  I loved it there!
They also participate in Shared Risk, which is actually the reason we chose them.
  • If you don't mind me asking, what was the OOP cost at IVF Michigan? I'm expecting to be referred to a RE in February if I'm still not pregnant and I'm trying to get an idea of IUI and IVF costs. I'm in Royal Oak, so any facility costs within an hour of there would be helpful. Thanks!

  • I'm not sure of the OOP costs, but I know when they sent me my information packet they included a pricing sheet.  I'm sure if you were to call them they could send you the cash patient costs.  I think the office staff is really helpful, I would definetly call!!

  • I did not go there for my IUIs but for my IVF the pricing will be:

    $8,100 for IVF with ICSI
    $250 anesthesia for ER
$1,600 cycling package for office visits, ultrasounds and labs
    Total = $9,950

  • Thank you so much for the info. We're trying to get an idea of what we could expect since we most likely will use savings for IUI attempts and look into a loan for IVF. We're hoping it doesn't get to that, but we're trying to be prepared. :)

  • Am I the only one who didn't have a "great" experience there?? I went for my 2nd opinion at the Dearborn office. The only thing I liked about the place and/or the visit was the fact they did an ultra sound on first visit (kind of cool for DH to see and we weren't expecting that) and the nurse was PG (supposedly from IVF).

I wasn't impressed with the staff at all...they had us wait over an hour to get into our appt and we felt like they were rushing us in and out - when we left, they all had their purses/keys in hand and the lobby lights off already! Other than immediately telling us "IVF is only option" they handed us a sperm cup, told us to call the other office to make an appt for DH's SA and sent us on our way with a folder. Didn' explain anything about how their clinic works, about the cost, nothing at all.

I left the place feeling lost. We had been told we'd be meeting with Dr. Fakih for our consult - he wasn't even there and the nurse then told us we'd have 2 more consults with the PA before we'd even meet him. Needless to say, we won't be going back there.

  • I know I'm posting a day late.....but I just want to let you know how much I LOVE Dr. Mersol-Barg in Birmingham. Someone else mentioned him. I know you are talking about IVF Michigan.....but I just wanted to recommend Mersol-Barg as well. We got PG with him on our first IUI.....so I don't have IVF experiences.....BUT......I know THREE people who got PG through Mersol-Barg on their 1st IVF's. Two of the three have healthy twins :) Also, one of the three girls is PG again through IVF with him.....(they had a singleton the first time and are now expecting twins....)

I just wanted to say that I have never had better care from that office. I love that Mersol-Barg is the only doctor in the office. He treats me like his doctor and the nurses treat us like we are important, not just another "number" in their practice. I will never go anywhere else.......because I have never had such better care. Just wanted to post my opinions.....

    Best of luck!
